A bit of backup

The next morning, you head off to work after breakfast. You only have to endure a little bit of teasing over the experience of the previous night, and Sirona seems more embarrassed than you are. Her shyness is back now that she’s out of the bedroom, but soon the other girls have her laughing again. As you leave, you see smiles all around, and it warms your heart to see such a happy scene.

When you arrive, you immediately run into Edward, who cheerfully greets you. After the usual pleasantries, and an update on Sirona, you turn the conversation to the strange letter you received from Kelly. Edward grows serious, and tells you to go talk with Rachel about it. Thanking him, you head off to find her.

As you expected, you find her in her office, already buried under a mountain of paperwork. Still, she smiles as she sees you walk in.

“Ahh, Brian! Good to see you. How is Sirona settling in?”

You smile back at her. “Very well, actually! I’ll spare you the details, but she’s really getting along with everyone!”

Rachel laughs. “That’s good to hear. So what brings you to my office so early this morning?”

You hold out the letter to her. “This was delivered to my house yesterday. I’m hoping I could get some advice on what to do.”

She takes the letter, reading it quickly. “This Kelly, she’s your ex, correct? The one who harassed you in the cafe?”

You nod. “That’s right. The few times I’ve seen her recently, things have been…odd.”

Rachel thinks for a moment. “Well, I think you should go, and see what she has to say. However, as a precaution, I’ll have Roz assign a couple people to observe. Just in case.”

You smile. “Thanks. I have a feeling that otherwise Kenna would take it upon herself to do it.”

Rachel laughs. “Dragon girls are very protective of their mates. I’d hate to get on her bad side! Regardless, I expect this will be unnecessary, but it’s better to be safe.”

You nod. “Agreed. I doubt Kelly would do anything crazy, though.”

Rachel shakes her head. “Unfortunately, you never know until it’s too late. There’s a few anti-monster girl groups out there, and although none of them have escalated beyond protests, it’s always a risk.”

You stand to leave, and Rachel smiles. “Anyway, hopefully this is just a simple meeting, and possibly a change of heart for her.”

You smile. “That would be nice, but I won’t count on it. She was always stubborn. Thanks, Rachel. I’ll get to work.”

She laughs. “Yes, get back to work, no slacking!”

You laugh as well. “You got it, boss!”
