Chapter 7 by CxSeth CxSeth

How goes the feast?

A bit of a jumble.

Johanna was surprised by how much time had passed while she was following Vissnar through the tunnels. By the position of the sun, it seemed to already be late afternoon, which meant she had been belowground for almost six hours. That said, it still seemed a bit early in the day for a feast, but then, a storm had been mentioned, so perhaps they had moved up their schedule. In any case, Vissnar had placed a hand on Johanna’s lower back, and was guiding her forward, introducing her to various Chosen who had gathered around the roaring bonfire. She did her best to remember each name and face, but had a feeling that it would be some time before she could really remember who everyone was.

After introductions came the feast. In one of the huts, a long wooden table had been loaded with mountains of fruits, roast fish, some sort of grilled boar, perhaps, a few loaves of oddly shaped bread, and jugs of colored liquids. Her stomach made an audible noise, but she could do nothing but stare. One of the Chosen she had just met (Yono?) eagerly pressed a loaf of bread into her hands, and showed her how it could be neatly pulled apart into a makeshift plate. He then loaded the bread up with some meat and red berries before encouraging her to eat. She was hungry, and quickly devoured the strange combination of foods, finding that the flavors all complimented each other quite well. She sampled some of the other foods as well, but her downfall came when yet another Chosen (Brang?) encouraged her to try some of what he called “Spirit Juice.”

Spirit Juice, it turned out, was the alcoholic beverage of choice for the Chosen. It tasted like a particularly flavorful wine, and while Johanna suspected from the first sip that Spirit Juice was alcoholic, she still decided to be a good sport and down a full cup of the stuff. But Spirit Juice is a bit more concentrated than any wine Johanna might have been used to, and a single cup was all it took to leave her severely ****.

The feast, after that, was a bit of a blur. Johanna danced, but she couldn’t remember when. She had a long conversation with Vissnar, but she couldn’t remember what was said. Johanna followed someone below ground when the feast was over, but she couldn’t remember who she was following. And, exhausted and disoriented, Johanna finally crawled into a bed and fell asleep.

Is the night over? Does the morning bring any surprises?
