Chapter 17 by Yelawolf Yelawolf

Pick your path. A Hero for the Grove or a Villain for Minthara cunt

A Villain for power and Minthara cunt

You decide to raid the grove with Minthara’s guidance. The drow’s eyes gleam with excitement as you relay your decision to her. She smiles, a twisted expression that sends a chill down your spine. “Very well, my pets. The time has come to prove your loyalty to the Absolute. I shall provide you with the means to infiltrate the Grove unnoticed. Do not fail me, or the consequences will be... unpleasant."

Karlach stare daggers into your soul as her hand reaches for her ax. "You're going through me first," she whispers through clenched teeth.

You tap into the tadpole power asking it to mentally break Karlach into liking this idea. She shakes her head as if shaking off a fog, the anger slowly draining from her eyes. She nods, though the hesitation is clear. "If this is what it takes to be rid of these... things... then I'll do it."

Shadowheart and Lae'zel exchange a knowing glance, the latter's gaze flickering with a mix of doubt and determination. The four of you set off into the night, following Minthara's instructions to the letter. The trek is long and fraught with tension, the air thick with the scent of damp earth and the distant cries of nocturnal creatures. The moon casts eerie shadows across the landscape as you navigate the winding paths that lead to the Grove's outskirts.

You reenter the grove as they allow you safe passage. They don't know the monsters they've welcomed into their sanctuary. The tension in the air is thick with deceit and fear. As you walk through the moonlit paths, you can feel the eyes of the inhabitants upon you, their trusting gazes a stark contrast to the treachery in your hearts. The beauty of the place feels tainted now, the once-peaceful ambience now a mockery of the chaos you are about to unleash.

You meet with Zevlor, the leader of the Grove, under the guise of seeking his wisdom about the tadpoles. His gentle demeanor and genuine concern for his people make it even harder to stomach the betrayal you're about to commit. He listens intently, his eyes filled with hope that you might bring a solution to their plight.

You nod your head at Shadowheart who stab her spear right through his chest. His eyes widen in shock as he gasps for air, his legs giving out beneath him. His blood stains the sacred soil of the Grove as he falls to his knees. The sound of his body collapsing to the ground echoes through the quiet night, shattering the illusion of peace.

A large goblin horn joins the night's symphony, signaling the start of the attack. The Grove's inhabitants scurry around in confusion and terror as Minthara’s followers flood in from the shadows. The tranquility of the once-safe haven is ripped apart by the cacophony of battle cries and clashing steel. The sight of your friends fighting alongside the drow against the unarmed and unprepared villagers makes your stomach churn.

But you also feels the power surging through you as the tadpole feeds on the fear and chaos. It's intoxicating, a heady mix of strength and purpose that you hadn't felt since first being infected. You push aside the doubt, focusing on the task at hand.

After many deaths, you find yourself standing in the charred remains of the Grove. The once-thriving sanctuary is now a scene of destruction, the smell of burning wood and flesh hanging heavily in the air. The villagers have been slaughtered, their screams silenced by the cold steel of Minthara’s soldiers. The sacred trees stand as blackened skeletons, a stark reminder of the life that once flourished here.
