A Surprise Invitation

After the traditional start of the year assembly where Jack Hartburn, the 45 year old principal who had short black hair and clear gray eyes, welcomed the students and faculty back for another year. Mr. Hartburn was well liked by both students and staff for his fairness in running the school. There was also the normal call for the various athletics teams for tryouts. Zack had tuned out most of the assembly, even when his estranged cousin Heather Ravers gave a little speech as the new cheer captain. Zack had perked up when the editor of the school paper, The Speedy Scout came up to the podium. The editor of the paper, Victoria Walker took Zack’s breath away, even from such a distance. Victoria had been Zack’s crush for several years, but he had never confessed his feelings to her. Victoria was beautiful with her long slightly wavy blonde hair, emerald green eyes, large breasts, but her best feature, in Zack’s opinion, was her curvy bubble butt.

Victoria spoke about taking applicants to join the school paper, that they were understaffed at the beginning of this year and that if anyone was interested they could come by The Speedy Scout office after school. Zack couldn’t believe his luck, the perfect opportunity for him to get closer to his crush and hopefully finally ask her out. It also wasn’t like he would be joining the paper specifically for Victoria, he had thought about it pretty much all of high school. The only thing that kept him from doing it was him attempting to make the basketball team. Now that he had given up on joining the team, he could finally join the paper, which his sister’s best friend Peter Zander had once been editor and who had encouraged Zack to join, but understood Zack’s desire to join the basketball team.

Zack was brought out of his musings by an excited Ashley who came up to him practically bouncing in excitement. Zack smiled at her, “What’s up Ash?” Ash looked at Zack with a wide smile, “Hey Zack, would you like to eat lunch with me and Heather?” Zack looked at her in surprise, “Don’t you normally eat lunch with the other cheerleaders and why would Heather want to eat with me?” Ashley shrugged, “She said she wanted to get to know her cousin finally before we all head off to college.” Zack frowned as Chloe, Paris and Gavin came up behind him, catching the end of what Ashley said. “I think you should do it Zack,” Chloe said from behind him, Zack turned to look at her with uncertainty. Chloe frowned and placed her hand on her hips and gave her best friend that special glare she saved only for him to let Zack know she wasn’t happy with him, “Whatever happened between your fathers shouldn’t keep you and Heather from knowing each other. Neither of you have anything to do with what happened in the past.”

Zack frowned, he knew Chloe was right and he couldn’t deny he had wanted to meet her when they first started high school, but the desire had ebbed away over the years. He looked at Ashley, “What classes do you have before lunch?” Ashley frowned and looked at her schedule, “Ummm, Chemistry with Mr. Ward, ewww,” she scrunched up her face at seeing the name of probably the school’s least favorite teacher. She shook her head in dismay before continuing, “Umm, History after Chemistry, Math and then Literature right before lunch.” Zack looked at his own schedule, “All right, we have literature together, can you give me until then to think about it?” Ashley smiled, “Of course, but I truly believe Heather just wants to get to know her cousin. So just keep that in mind while you think ok?” Zack smiled and nodded, “Ok, Ash I will let you know then.” Ashley smiled and gave Zack a parting hug, before running off to her first class. Zack and Gavin had History together, first period so the two boys bid goodbye to Chloe and Paris and made their way to their first class of their senior year.
