What's her idea?
A Roommate
"We can get a roommate!" she says, excitedly.
Unsure how I'd feel about this prospect, I ask "Oh? Are you sure, baby? We've probably got other options, I'd just need to think about it...", I say.
"I looked, and there's an app to find roommates at your school for people in the same situation. Look!" she says, showing me her phone.
I look at the app. It's pretty slick. Everyone has a profile picture, a little short bio, their location, age, things like that. They can put what kind of roommate they're looking for, their hobbies and preferences, that sort of thing. I swipe for a bit, then hand the phone back to her.
"Well, it's not the worst idea. Would we have a boy or a girl as a roommate?" I ask, genuinely unsure of what the correct answer would be.
"Well, I think a guy would be good. You know me, I get along with guys better than girls, and maybe you could find a friend, too. I might get a little jealous if a girl was walking around the house, you know?", she speaks the truth, even if I'm still uncertain of my feelings.
"I don't know, babe... You never know what sort of people are out there. We could end up with some kind of creep, or someone who doesn't pay their part." I say, concerned.
"That's the best part, baby. People leave ratings on people, and because you use your real name, people will know really quick if you're some kind of bum or creep." she shows me on the app where people have gotten reviews from former roommates, most of them 5/5 stars with a nice little message.
"Well, we're one of those people without a rating, right?" I ask, wondering how that would work.
"Well, that's the other part. I got a lot of matches with people around the campus. I've been messaging a few people about our situation, and I think I found the perfect match for us!" she says, far too excitedly.
I look, and she's found a guy with a ton of 5-star reviews. He's a local, a part-time student. Decent looking guy named Michael, 21 years old, interests like gaming aligning with my own.
I do notice that Cassandra's profile picture is quite the looker, not that she's even capable of taking bad photos. Of course she's gotten dozens of matches, guys would kill to be around her, let alone living with her. We'd need to be careful.
"Well, at least someone could buy us beer." I laugh, handing her the phone.
"So? Should I message him? We can meet him and everything before we commit to anything long-term." she says, awaiting my answer.
