A Ring

Alex shook the box around and heard something tiny rolling around inside. When Alex looked inside they saw a simple gold band with something engraved into it in strange glyphs that were not in any language Alex had ever seen before.

Alex picked the ring up and looked closer at the red gem that was socketed into the small band. The stone seemed to glow with an inner fire that Alex found hypnotic. With little resistance, Alex gave into the urge to put the ring on their own finger to see how it looked, not knowing that such an act would change their life and the world forever.
