Chapter 4 by Merlin678 Merlin678

What is your background?

A Ranger

The Rangers are a small organisation of skilled warriors, who live nomadic lives, travelling Idruinn in search of mercenary work, monster hunting contracts and the like. They have a reputation of honour, although they are often avoided in public, either out of fear or risk of danger. The Rangers are split into guild ranks, those being Apprentice, Yeoman, Master and Elder. You'll be taking the role of Hal FitzHall, a recently promoted Yeoman, finally stepping out on your own path after your many years of training under your Master.

Hal is a handsome human male, only 23 years of age. He stands at 6 feet and 1 inch tall, with a lean yet muscular frame. The young Ranger wears his dark hair long, tying it back with a strip of twine whilst the faintest hint of a beard decorates his face. Unlike more experienced Rangers, Hal bears very few scars, the most noticeable being an old gash on the left side of his jaw, courtesy of a raging werewolf he fought during his apprenticeship. He wears a simple wool shirt, that may once have been white, but is now a dirty pale grey, as well as a studded leather cuirass stamped with a symbol of a bow and arrow, the sigil of the Rangers. Both his boots and breeches are also leather, designed for practicality on the road in addition to protection and comfort. On his shoulders rests two leather pauldrons, with a dark brown linen cloak tucked beneath them.

As for his armaments, Hal prefers to use an axe, which rests comfortably on his hip. He has several daggers sheathed in a number of places across his body, from his boots to his belt to his back, some visible and some hidden from view. He also carries a spear on his back, and a longbow strapped to the saddle of his horse. If he remembered one part of his training, it to always remained armed, which soon became advice Hal stuck to. He keeps his weapons wickedly sharp, often honing them on the whetstone that was gifted to him by his Master, a man named Woden Thornwood, when he was promoted to the rank of Yeoman.

Upon his promotion, Hal decided to start his path in the Atrian Capital of Wardhurst, one of the largest cities in the world. His story begins, as all good tales do, in a bustling tavern, buzzing with drunken chatter and casual toasts. The main hall is large, comfortably accomaditing 50 patrons, though on an evening like this, there is easily 100 customers eating and drinking. The barkeep, a short, balding man, is being kept busy whilst two younger maidens, seemingly his daughters, deliver orders to tables. The young Ranger sits in a darkened corner of the room, beneath the stairs to the upper floors. His spear leans against the wall, but his axe still rests against his hip. Hal is lost in thought, half planning his next move, half daydreaming about the adventures he's yet to have, when he is interrupted.

Who interrupts the young Ranger?
