Chapter 44 by grimbous grimbous

What's next?

A New Friend

Feeling good and feeling free El and Chloe just drive around the city for awhile, singing songs, dancing in their seats, hooting and whistling at cute boys and hot girls they happened to see on the sidewalks. The cousins were just having an overall great time. Elsie had never felt more alive!

"You know what I want?" El shouts over the blaring music.

"What?"

"A big greasy f-fucking hamburger." She stumbles over the swear. While no saint El wasn't known for her foul mouth. "French fries. Milkshake. Banana split. Let's be bad!"

"Helllll yeah!" Chloe cheers. "My treat! Let's eat until we pop!"

"Ha ha!"

While El continues to meander through the unfamiliar neighborhood they found themselves in she was now driving with purpose. It is not long until they see a beacon of light in the distance. A brightly lit local diner sat at the corner up ahead, exactly the sort of place El was looking for. She could practically taste the artery clogging grease already.

The car thumping with loud music they pull in and park around to the side of the building. They get out a bundle of energetic giggles and take each others arms again and head toward the front door. As the move along the side, peering in the big windows and taking note of the packed parking lot, Chloe says. "They are hopping! Why are they so busy?"

"Eh." El shrugs. "I'm sure they must have a table or two."

The pair walk in and the place is buzzing. There is a strange mix of roughly half college students and an assortment of older people ranging from their 30's all the way up into their 80's. The diner was absolutely packed, not only was every table occupied nearly every seat was full as well, and the noise of clinking cutlery and dozens of conversations all happening at once drown out the classic oldies tunes playing in the background. On a stand up chalkboard by the door it says "Trivia Night".

"Oh. I think we've just walked into something here." Elsie says into Chloe's ear.

Chloe's face lights up. "Trivia? COOL! I'm awesome at trivia."

"Maybe we should find another..."

Just then a handsome young tanned skin waiter with piercing blue eyes hurries up to greet them. He had a sheen of sweat across his brow and by his flustered appearance it looked as if he was run off his feet tonight. "Um, we're kinda full up I'm afraid."

Elsie goes to say that it was okay and they'd go somewhere else but the young man continues.

"If you don't mind sitting with someone I do have a few last spots."

"We don't mind!" Chloe peeps. "We're VERY friendly." She gives the waiter a none to subtle wink.

He doesn't even notice. "Great, follow me."

He starts off toward the back corner of the restaurant. After a moment's hesitation El follows, Chloe still on her arm. Chloe is smiling and nodding to all of the other patrons and they smile and nod back. There was a really positive vibe to the place.

"Game starts in half an hour or so." The waiter explains, his name badge said Felix. He seemed to sense it was the girl's first trivia night. "Should be enough time to order and eat if you want. Once the game starts we only serve drinks, appetizers, and desserts."

"Gotcha." Chloe says. "Are there prizes?"

"Yep. A Nintendo Switch for the winning table and some gift cards for second and third."

This grabbed Elsie's interest immediately. She was more a PC gamer but she did have a 3ds and did enjoy Nintendo games. She had been dying to play Breath of the Wild for years now.

Behind them they could hear another server turning away a couple who had just walked in. It appeared Chloe and Elsie got in just under the wire. Chloe was ecstatic for the fun of it and Elsie was loving the completely random nature of this sudden adventure.

They are brought to a booth with a single occupant. A stunningly gorgeous lean long haired redheaded woman with emerald green eyes and ruby lips. Her effortless beauty was nearly a match for Elsie. She looked to be about 20 years old but wore a dress of a bygone fashion era, yet it somehow suited her to a tee.

"Stragglers?" The woman smiles as Felix approaches.

"Last two." He says. "They're with you."

"Great."

The way these two talked El could immediately tell they were at the very least familiar acquaintances.

"This is Casey Devlin, my best friend and worst customer." Felix says before getting waved down by someone near the kitchen. "I'll be back for your orders as quick as I can." He then hurries off.

Chloe slips into the booth across from Casey, El takes the seat next to Chloe.

"I'm Chloe Bailey!"

"I'm Elsie."

"Good to meet you." Casey smiles politely.

"So...are you good at trivia or is this like the 'special' table?" Chloe asks bluntly.

"Chloe!" Elsie gasps.

"What!?" Chloe says. "I was a short bus kid. There's no shame in it! Makes it more fun when ya beat the normies."

"Oh my god." El covers her face before apologizing. "Sorry. My cousin is...blunt."

"I see that." Casey just laughs. "I hold my own at trivia. Haven't won yet though."

"I'm the BEST at it." Chloe brags as she points at herself with her thumb, jabbing herself in her tiny boob. "I'll be team leader. We've got this! We're cousins by the way, El and I. I know we look like twins but we're actually cousins."

Casey raises a brow. The pair of them had similar colored hair and weren't too far off height wise, but besides that they looked quite different. Chloe was skinny, mousy, and cute in plain looking librarian sort of way, her thick glasses making her brown eyes a humorously large. She was also clearly the older of the two. Elsie on the other hand was an absolute stunner. She had a distinct resemblance to an Audrey Hepburn in her pomp. More curvaceous though and with deep dark, almost black, eyes. Casey was interested to note that the beautiful Elsie seemed completely oblivious to the attention and glances she was getting from the men in the room. She was either unaware of it or so accustomed to it as to be immune. The pair of them seemed to be in one heck of a good mood.

Elsie rolls her eyes at the twin comment but leans in for a one arm hug, Chloe grins proudly at the show of affection. They both laugh happily. "It should be fun anyway."

Casey looks from one to the other then joins in on the chuckles. She had a feeling this might be one of the more memorable trivia night's she'd ever had.
