A Lay of the Land
[Roll: 13]
Patience's arrival quickly drew attention, given that this was her first appearance at an event like this since her father's arrest and that she would soon be taking up the position of Countess. While a normal attendant would be at Patience's side helping her deal with the crowd of curious nobles, that was not Runa's job. Instead, the attention on her patron allowed her to slip away and take a look around.
The entry hall where Patience had gathered a crowd was connected to the gallery by a long hallway, and this area was open to partygoers. It was a simple matter for Runa to make her way to the gallery.
Upon arriving, she saw that there was still security, as well as several servants who were on-hand to guide curious guests on tours. There's be no chance of making a move now. However, there were the lookouts stationed on the second floor who were looking down at the scene. If Runa could find a way up there, she could find an opening.
Returning to the main area, Runa saw that Patience was still the center of attention. She felt a little bit of guilt, but knew the best thing she could do was to accomplish their shared goal. So, Runa took a look up the main flight of stairs that lead to the second level. While there was light security at the bottom of the stairs as well as the top, they didn't seem to be obstructing anyone.
Stepping up, one of the guards approached Runa. "Is there anything you need, my lady?" he asked. "Are you intending to meet someone, or looking for a quiet place to rest?"
"The latter," Runa replied. "I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of this."
The guard's expression twisted slightly into a sneer, clearly feeling contempt for the rich-looking woman who was seemingly exhausted by a party. But only a careful observer would notice. His words remained professional. "There are several private rooms on the second floor. If the door is open, it means it is available."
"I see, thank you," Runa replied, heading up. She turned in the direction of the gallery, past two closed doors, and stepped into a room whose door was open. She shut it behind her and took a moment to consider options. Was it worth investigating this room? Or should she simply rest here for a few moments and then try to head deeper into the mansion?
