Chapter 4 by sunandshadow sunandshadow

So, who would you like to be?

A Gracile (Raveth, Lyalion, or Kiian)

Graciles like to live in forested or mountainous areas, whereas Robusts like to live on the plains, near rivers and lakes. Graciles live more spread out, each individual or family group having their own territory, while Robusts group together into towns for protection.

Both species are omnivores, but Graciles see being a good hunter as an attractive trait and important to having a high social rank, and look down on gathered fruits, vegetables, nuts, and mushrooms as being the food of the lazy, young, and incompetent. Evolutionarily, this preference is a result of the difficulty of carrying food while flying - meat is a higher-quality food because it has more calories and protein per pound than other foods. Also, pregnant Graciles have difficulty hunting, so it's best for the species if the other dragons leave the gatherable foods for the pregnant dragons who need them more.

Robusts, on the other hand, often hunt the larger prey of the plains in packs rather than hunting smaller prey alone like the Graciles. Robusts also have some agriculture, managing orchards and small gardens. They have more of a communal food-sharing system, where the hunters return with meat and the non-hunters bring fruits and vegetables, and they trade in the town market and everyone eats around communal fires, unless the weather is bad. If a Robust is happy with the food he has and doesn't want to trade, or is sick and doesn't want to walk to the market, he may eat at home, but doing this all the time is regarded as anti-social and suspicious.

Raveth was a good hunter despite being a less agile flier than most Graciles because he had the size and strength to tackle larger prey which were usually not bothered by the Graciles, and were therefore unwary and easy to take by surprise. Raveth had a rather impressive cloak made from a mountain tiger he had killed once, and earned a little extra money selling the skins of his rarer kills. His main job was acting as a guard whenever his town sent a trading expedition to the nearest Robust town, and when there was no trading going on he did odd jobs which required strength, like helping build houses. Raveth and Lyalion were a family group and shared a territory (although Raveth feared that Lyalion would soon take a mate or two and establish his own family territory elsewhere).

Lyalion was an excellent hunter, which only made sense, since aerial rugby evolved as a play form of hunting. He earned a share of the fees spectators paid to watch his rugby games, and had a few times been paid to act as a heat companion (kind of like a whore, but a respectable position among dragons, because a heat companion must be trusted to not get his partner pregnant, and even restrain his partner if the partner suddenly, under the onslaught of heat hormones, decided that he wanted to get pregnant even though he had been strongly against the idea yesterday.) Lyalion had also a few times been hired to provide fresh meat for a party another dragon wanted to hold. So Lyalion didn't have a real career yet, but might go into politics or win a wealthy mate, or make a lot of money as a professional heat companion for a few years before settling down. (Raveth thought Lyalion would choose to take a mate soon because Raveth understood loneliness all too well, but didn't understand the appeal of staying single and getting lots of sex as a heat companion; Raveth was a virgin and didn't really understand how powerful sex could be... yet. ;) )

Kiian lived alone in his own territory. He was a passable hunter because he was fast and agile, even though he could only hunt the smallest prey. He kept himself fed, wove his own cloth, and paid for those few things he couldn't make himself by gathering medicinal plants and making medicines, which he sold a batch of to a merchant Gracile about once a month. Other than his monthly shopping trip he had little contact with other dragons; little contact, but not quite none. Kiian was not a virgin; there were a few Graciles who would fuck him if he were in heat despite thinking he was a freak because of his patchwork black and white skin..

But Kiian had never been truly made loved to; instead he had been insulted, had other dragons demand that he suck their cocks while refusing him permission to touch himself, or been fucked roughly enough that he had bruises afterwards. Still, it was something, and now he didn't have even that, because he was almost 4 months pregnant and none of the Graciles who sometimes fucked him would go anywhere near him now because they were afraid of being accused of siring the child. Kiian did not actually know who the child's sire was, because the last time he went into heat one of his usual tormentor/lovers brought two buddies and they all had a go at Kiian. So Kiian was faced with a tough decision. Try to trap a Robust into carrying his child even though he was alone, much smaller and weaker than any Robust, and currently unable to fly or even run because of his heavy belly? Try to **** the three possible fathers into helping him capture a Robust? Or admit defeat, admit he was as pathetic as everyone always said he was by letting his child die?

Whose (mis)adventures would you like to follow?
