A Glimpse At A Possible Future

"Unfortunately it does seem like Goregut left absolutely nothing behind upon being defeated. A shame, I'm quite curious what we would have gotten from something like that," Maple says, examining the spot where Goregut vanished.

"What I saw was... A room... I guess... It was fleshy and... wrong. There were... I don't know, hundreds... thousands maybe... Of people embedded part way in the walls of the room. I... I don't want to end up there," Sally explains hugging herself.

"Undoubtedly a location in the Hungry Sands. From what little we know, Bai'zebul consumes people and feeds on them indefinitely, keeping them alive and relatively well off so it can consume them forever. What Sally saw was likely the place, or possibly one of many such places that Bai'zebul keeps it's victims while consuming them," Talwa suggests as Yulia is healing her and she's looking healthier already.

"I can also confirm that the monsters do seem to only haunt one single region of the desert. In my time staying here I have only seen Goregut and my associates at the temple only ever mentioned The Rack so it seems most likely that they stay in their own regions," Talwa adds.

"Which means there's nothing stopping us from resting here or at the temple as much as we want without having to worry about Dreg," Yulia says cheerfully as she finishes with Talwa and moves on to heal the others.

Maple sets to work on making some Mana potions out of their water, before having Yulia top their water back up via the usual method, "I must say... It's quite impressive that these voices managed to come up with a way to create an infinite amount of raw material. The combinations of abilities and methods available to the chosen in the right circumstances is astounding," Maple says as she distributes the mana potions to those who need them.

"Well... We're grateful you killed Goregut, but other than not fucking with you as you go through the tomb, there's not much else we can offer you, believe it or not, we don't have much. Not like we need anything really," one of the mummies answers as the rest seem to be just going back to their normal activities.

"So, if we're exploring the tomb there's the Long Sleep, the Ritual chamber, the er... coffee house, Gift Shop and the throne room and of course the hall of heroes, Hall of Shadows and the Descent that we have to pass through to reach those," Yulia explains.

"Normally of course we'd do our best to scare, fuck or trick you as you passed through, but I'm sure none of us would be callous enough to mess with you after you rid us of Goregut... Unless you wanted us too," The mummy reiterates.

As they try to decide where to go from here, Talwa moves to a relatively empty part of the tomb and begins to fire off her spells, Maple going with her to keep her topped up with mana potions as she masters Fireball and Great Fireball and then she hesitates, "firestorm is a devastating spell... I don't think it's safe to practice it indoors..." she admits and Maple nods.

"Well... If we're all ready, I suppose we should head to the gift shop," Yulia suggests and the group head to the Descent.

The Descent turns out to simply be a large set of stairs heading deeper. As they are about to descend Isalia stops everyone, "so... there are... an almost absurd number of traps on these stairs, not very well hidden ones either. It would be easy enough to avoid them individually, but the sheer number of them means we'll have to be cautious descending," she explains, but then glances over at a Mummy standing by the top of the stairs, "although I assume given we were promised safe passage, that you're here to help us?" she asks and the Mummy chuckles.

"Oh no... I'm just here normally to trigger the real trap," she clarifies and Isalia hesitates.

"Real trap?" she asks and the mummy nods.

"the traps on the stairs are at most harmless annoyances, but as you descend either dealing with the traps or struggling to avoid them I trigger the real trap," she says and then points up. Isalia glances up, there's a number of holes in the ceiling and Isalia swallows.

"I... Uh assumed those were connected to one of the stair traps, what uh... What do those do?" Isalia asks very nervous suddenly and the mummy giggles.

"How well do you think you'd be able to dodge a rain of arrows while trying to avoid the rest of these traps," the mummy asks and Isalia blinks.

"You people are sick..." she mutters and the Mummy chuckles.

"They wouldn't kill you, we made sure of that, blunt tips for one thing, but they hurt, they distract and the stairs are quite steep and at the bottom rather... sharp... You'll live, but you will likely bleed and oh the amount of blood that has spilled on these steps," the mummy says with a lustful shiver and then she sighs, "but don't worry... You killed Goregut, I won't activate the arrow trap you have my word," she swears, seeming a bit disappointed.

Following Isalia's guidance the group descend the steps. Isalia constantly looking fearfully up at the holes in the ceiling and back at the mummy. The mummy keeps her word however and they make it down to the bottom where indeed the stairs are rough and covered in splintered stone. Falling here would cut someone quite badly. At the very bottom are a number of doors and one of them labeled gift shop also has a quite welcome and familiar coin symbol on it. Yulia doesn't even hesitate before rushing inside and indeed Alide's shop is inside and Yulia runs up and hugs Alide who hugs her back, "Good to see you too!" Alide greets her as they hug.

"It feels like it's been forever since we last saw you," Yulia admits and Alide smiles.

"I miss you too between floors, don't worry," she says and Yulia steps back, releasing her and Alide grins, "now what do you need?" she says and gestures to a wall covered in all kinds of knickknacks including small plushy mummies, scale replicas of the tomb and a number of other Tomb related souvenirs and Yulia looks aghast.

"You really are a gift shop?" Yulia asks and Alide nods.

"I'm a big fan of the plushies, they're surprisingly soft and cute," she says grabbing one and holding it lovingly against her cheek and then looking at Yulia's face she grins, "Of course I am also still offering my normal wares, but do think about grabbing a souvenir as well, the cost is quite affordable, all you have to do is cut yourself and drop a bit of blood on the ground and you can have one," she clarifies, "everything in this tomb is paid for with blood, of course," she adds with a dismissive wave.
