Chapter 7

Who is it?
A Familiar Blonde.
The young woman was Anna Doukas.
George knew her, but not very well. He’d babysitted her a few times since he’d moved in a couple months ago. She did not need babysitting, since she was 19 years old and was a freshman at a local university, but, well, her mom was absolutely insane and had insisted on it.
Why had George gone along with that incredibly stupid request? Because Anna’s mom was his boss.
Yeah, George thought, I wouldn’t have moved here if I’d known that I would be living next to my boss. Someone who was absolutely petty enough to get him fired if he didn’t go along with her insane requests.
Anna had seemed… understanding about the ordeal, though she was still pretty cautious around him. When she’d been at his apartment, she mostly just did homework and occasionally called her friends if she finished early. George had only really had one good conversation with her, the last time she visited, where they’d kinda been able to bond over a shared dislike of her mother.
Anna was about halfway across the courtyard when she walked under a lamppost and George was able to get a good look at her.
Normally, when he saw her, she was dressed in more conservative outfits, but this time she was wearing a relatively skimpy gym outfit, likely having just come from track or volleyball practice.
She was wearing very short gray gym shorts that showed off her long, toned legs, and had on a matching loose gray tank top as well, which made her wavy, shoulder length blond hair stand out more. She was quite petite, and had modest but perky breasts, which George hadn’t really noticed before now.
George refused to think of her as attractive, even if his body disagreed with that. He did not go through all this hassle just to be fired for perving on his boss’s daughter.
Considering that, George almost hesitated to press the Stereotype button, which was now visible right below a preview of her page on his phone. But he didn’t hesitate. There wasn’t time to find someone else. He'd have to trust himself not to do anything stupid to her.
He pressed the button just before she walked past his window and out of sight. The tension left his body in a deep sigh of relief, and George collapsed back into his chair, his phone screen glowing in front of him.
Stereotyping Complete!
+ 5 EXP
You have added Anna to your Subject list by Stereotyping her.
Subject: Anna Doukas
Stereotype: Athlete
Additional Traits: Confident, Studious
Yep, George thought, makes sense, as usual.
It seemed that Anna was a pretty remarkable young woman. Not only was she pretty, but that was quite a nice combination of traits. And she had, amazingly, achieved that while having an absolutely psychotic mother.
George cringed slightly at that thought. It was better not to think about Anna right now, he didn’t need the temptation.
The voice had told him he would have to complete all his quests to keep the app, so looking into that seemed like a good distraction. The quest tab had a notification icon on it, and when George clicked on it, yet another pop-up appeared on screen.
Quest “Mental Robin Hood” has been added.
Objective: Steal a Trait from a subject with two and give that Trait to a subject with only one.
Right! The app had mentioned stealing and giving traits earlier when he’d tried to swap Tara and Jennifer back. George went back and checked the descriptions for those abilities, but they seemed pretty straightforward. Steal a secondary trait, store it, then he could give it to someone else with room for more traits.
Anna was the only subject with two traits so far, but George didn't want to mess with her right now. He had all week to figure out what to do, even if he didn’t want to wait until the last moment again.
With that, a wave of exhaustion hit him, almost out of nowhere, as the adrenaline of the last half hour finally faded. George thought about checking out that Perk Store the app had mentioned, but he got the strangest feeling that, for narrative reasons, he should really go to bed for the night. There would be time to plan tomorrow.
What happens tomorrow?
