A Divine Reunion

"Amia, wake up," Amia heard a pleasant voice whisper to her. It sounded familiar. But it couldn't be...could it? She opened her eyes, and her suspicions were confirmed.

"It's you!" She said happily. "I must be dreaming!"

"No, I'm the real deal," said the first God. Amia looked, and saw that she was stood in an endless void with her creator. She ran up to him, and hugged him tightly.

"Please don't ever leave again," she said to him through her tears of joy.

"Don't worry, I'm here to stay."

"But how did you come back? I thought you were stuck in the Gods' heaven forever?"

"Amia, I am omnipotent. I made the rules, so I can break them."

"But why have you come back?" Amia asked him, her tears letting up.

"Because I wish to know how my creations are doing," God replied. "Although I can view what is going on in the universe, I have chosen not to, trusting you to run things in my absence. So how are things?"

"Well..." Amia said, not quite wanting to tell him.

"Amia, when have I ever punished you for being honest with me? Please speak your mind."

"Well Lord...things haven't been going well. The universe you created has been destroyed and replaced several million times. Thousands of Gods were extremely cruel, some unspeakably so. Even some of the non-cruel Gods were too selfish to do anything that didn't benefit themselves."

"Surely there must have been some good Gods?"

"Well, yes, there were. The current God, Jen, is very kind, as were many others. But many more were cruel."

"I see. It is as I predicted," God said.

"What do you mean?" Amia asked, confused.

"I predicted that there would be many cruel Gods, but also many kind Gods," God explained. "And what is your opinion on them?"

"I feel annoyed that so many cruel and selfish people got to access the Gods' heaven, when so many more were given eternal suffering, despite their good actions."

"Don't worry Amia, it shall all be fixed."

"How so?"

"Just trust me."

"That's your answer for everything!" Amia shouted. "I trusted you for trillions of years, serving you faithfully! I thought you were totally perfect, and I couldn't accept anything other than that! But as time went on, and I saw the suffering your successors caused, I began to doubt you. I thought that if you really were good, why would you allow this to happen. I..I prayed. I prayed so many times asking for your guidance, but none came.

I started to think that Lucifer was right to oppose you. Oh, you don't know about Lucifer, do you? Remember that sweet little boy we recruited? Well he started a rebellion against your successors! We had to cast him down to hell, but really, why should we have? He was only speaking his mind, something you always encouraged! He, unlike me, had the courage to speak out against what was wrong with this "divine succession" system! And yet he was punished! I might have done a similar thing later on, if not for the knowledge that whoever was in charge could oppose me in an instant!

So tell me Lord, why should I trust you? Because you never told me anything, ever! It was always "trust me" and "I'll tell you when the time is right!" So tell me now! Tell me, or I'll be spending all eternity distrusting you, and wishing I'd never agreed to this job!"

"Amia, I totally understand," God says. "And that is why I am here. To tell you."

"So teach me, oh teacher," Amia said sarcastically.

"Amia, when I created you, I told you the purpose of creation," God explained. "I told you that I wished to have eternal companionship. This is true, but I did not want to create entirely perfect beings. So I made the universe, to decide who should receive the eternal reward of my companionship. This companionship, is in my heaven. Not the heaven you have been living in, nor the Gods' heaven. This is a heaven which is reserved for those judged good."

"So why not just send everyone judged good there now?" Amia asked.

"Because Amia, no-one has been judged yet," God replied. "These judgments you have made with the lesser Gods who you have served are not judgments, they are actions to be judged against. Everyone must now be judged, so as to determine if they will join me in eternal reward, or whether they will get truly eternal torment. You and I will be the judges. You have had experience with all these people, so you will judge them with me."

"Does this mean...?"

"Yes Amia, it means you will be able to finally judge the lesser Gods. Those who took your advice, and were firm but fair with their subjects will be rewarded, but those who were evil and selfish will be punished. We will also judge the angels, to see how faithfully they have served. And then, we will judge the mere mortals. We will save them from the suffering inflicted by the lesser Gods, and give them either a heightened suffering, or eternal bliss and companionship with me. Then when we are done, you may join me at my right hand, as you always were, but this time, there will be no servitude, only companionship. You will be like a bride to me, but not romantically or sexually."

"My Lord, you have made me so happy," Amia said, breaking out into more tears of happiness. "But why me?"

"Amia, you are not mortal," God replied. "You possess mortal feelings, but you do not possess their selfish desires. You were created as my right-hand, to advise me. As such, I value your opinions above all others. You are the only one who can give me truly unbiased opinions."

"Thank you Lord," Amia said.
