A Demon of Wishes is summoned.

Emilie Cotton. Age 18. Large, spherical glasses over a freckled face.

She was lucky, or unlucky, enough to happen upon The Book of Vanity locked in a glass case in a small-town antique shop. She didn't know what it was at the time, but her eyes landed on the marred spine. She had no reason other than a sudden whim that overpowered her sense of decency. The old man that ran the shop had turned his back after plucking a book from the shelf, and before he could lock the cabinet back up, she snatched it and ran out before he even noticed anything.

She talked herself out of returning the book three times and she finally looked through it. The Book of Vanity was some kind of spell book. Emilie didn't believe in magic, but she was willing to open her mind when she saw the French text on the pages erase itself and rewrite itself in English.

As if the Book had a hold over her, she felt like she needed to see this through and found the first ritual. It had very comprehensive instructions and everything she needed to perform it was readily available in her spice wrack. She drew a pentacle in salt on her carpet. She translated the Enochian script she had to recite into the phonics alphabet.

She spoke aloud the magic words, and when she had finished, every lightbulb in her apartment exploded into minuscule shards, plunging her into darkness.

At her feet the spell circle caught fire. The flame was a flowery blue, with golden sparks leaping from the center like gold-flaked lapis lazuli. The carpet remained undamaged as the flame doubled in size and a black silhouette forming into an animal shape.

The black animal crawled out from the bonfire and the shadows dimmed.

It wasn't an animal. It was a woman.

She was gorgeous. Her pale complexion was periwinkle against the fire's light. It was flawless like a marble statue, not a scar or imperfection on her. She had a pixie-cut of blonde hair and a pair of goat-like horns that framed her head. Her eyes glowed a poisonous pink.

She stood up, giving Emilie a better view of her slim, naked body. What caught Emilie's attention further was that unlike the woman herself, the woman's shadow extended a pair of massive gargoyle wings and a pointed tail that coiled like a snake.

"Hello," said the woman. Her voice was only a whisper, but it was still deafening.

"H-Hi." Said Emilie. She gripped the book that got her into this situation, as though hoping it would shield her against what would come next.

"You have brought me to the Mortal World, and for that I owe you a boon. My power is at your disposal. Is there anything you desire?"
