Chapter 83 by TheUnfathomable TheUnfathomable

Can they?

A Crusade of Catastrophe [8-A tiny bit of tidying]

As yet another pathetic weakling was grabbed on the retreat and hurled into a distant structure at a **** that instantly killed them, Dread felt nothing but rage. Not a combative rage, just a dull, seething rage that made him want to find whoever was in charge of this encampment and pull them apart, one muscle at a time.

'Who the hell makes an encampment this far into a monster filled forest without any half decent fighters? The strongest one they had needed to use a curse, and it didn't even work! It seems that without a solid commander, no **** of darkness will be of any concern. Even then, I wonder just how mismanaged most of their forces will be.' He could not stop his mental roast of the small fries as he tore them limb from limb, it being his only valid way of trying to suppress his rage.

The response to his hope, was that there absolutely was not anyone else here that could pose a threat to him. No attack launched at him damaged his hardened carapace of bone, let alone outpaced his regeneration. It left him feeling utterly baffled as to what these individuals could have possibly been gathered for if they were so woefully weak.

On the bright side, he had managed to get a few more achievements. As he pulled the menu back up to look at them, he did not bother to check if there were any surviving stragglers. It didn't matter, they were no threat no matter what they tried.

Achievement Unlocked: This bitch be empty...

Kill a creature by throwing them into an object

Reward: Physical attack +50% for calculations involving throwing distance and ****

Achievement Unlocked: Now that's using your head!

Kill a creature with a single headbutt

Reward: Physical attack +50% for headbutts, and +50% Physical defense on the head when used in attacks.

Along with those typical ones, there was also a... different one.

Achievement Collection Completed: All Might

Collected all basic combat achievements

Reward: Skill: Overdrive (active) (GROWTH) [Legend]: an ability that grants the user the ability to go beyond their physical limitations. When activated, they gain an amount of physical stats equal to {Physical stat*{Physical stat/100}}, meaning their strength is increased by a percent equal to their strength. It allows for exponential growth, however there is a withdrawal at the end. The user's physical attack will then be divided by the number it was formerly increased by, leaving them monumentally weaker. This effect will end once the user has gotten sufficient rest.

This, would be perfect. It was a skill that could theoretically allow him to fight any foe, as long as he simply got strong enough. It didn't matter if an enemy had overbearing magic, if he could simply out heal and out damage them with his muscle alone. There was of course the recoil, but he would suffer that it if meant being of service to his lord.

There was something else about the skill, however. A tag he had not yet seen, and one that was not fully self explanatory. It used box brackets instead of parenthesis, and stated the skill was a "legend". Does that mean it was taken from someone of great fame, or simply that it was of higher quality? Dread did not yet know the answer, but it served as a good distraction.

With said distraction now out of the way, he finished cleaning up his mess. He took out some of the items he had stored in the space he seemed to have been given by his lord as a storage container. He laid around some discarded pieces of armor and ripped banners from the light, making it seem to an onlooker that the raid at been the Light's doing. This would somewhat set back anyone on his tail.

With this, he spat on the ground in disgust for what little it offered him, and made his way away. The sun was solidly in the sky now, and he could waste no time in evading pursuit. If he was found, it would lead to a long scale effort to kill him, which would require more damage to handle then he felt he was allowed.

As he found a spot to hunker down in and wait, he began to feel something... familiar. It was like what he had felt the whole time while conversing with the forest, but much grander. Much more demanding of his sheer respect and devotion.

He could figure it out with that little information alone. He crept his way through, making sure not to be detected by any of the other creatures he could sense nearby. As he slowly crept forward, he felt himself straighten out to attention as he approached.

Dread found a secluded spot nearby, before confirming his suspicion. There was no doubt, "What has brought you out here, my Lord?"

So... What has "Mathew" doing this whole time?
