What's next?
A Convention featuring high tech farming solutions
Fredric sat down by his computer, ready to start his day of work as a calendar notification startled him.
”Local Convention regarding hydro and aquaponics.” was the short description popping up.
”Oh, right” he said out loud as he recalled the reason why he saved that.
It would be a good opportunity to scout investment possibilities in growing companies and maybe actually talk to some one.
The thought stressed him a little.
“I’ll manage just fine, just talk like I’d normally do, just walk up and talk, that is what they are there for after all...” he says mentally, as he digs his head into the palm of his right hand.
He then rises with renewed vigor and went to dress a bit more proper, a nice shirt and a new pair of pants, not the usual torn t-shirt and comfy pants that he was accustomed to now.
A thirty minutes bus drive later and he arrived to the fairly modest convention at a local hotel with plenty of space to accommodate it.
It stretched out past the lobby, the back halls had been readied to be as open as possible, with plenty of people moving about past the checkpoints, he could see the stalls lining the walls and center of the floor.
After passing the checkpoint at the lobby, paying the entry fee he went around looking at the different solutions to these new farming techniques. Gone was the idea of the farmer with a straw hat and a tractor.
What they showed here was with lab coats, bright lights and glass containers, all very impressive but seemingly very expensive to first set up, even if it payed off eventually.
One solution stuck out for him and he moved closer to pose some questions to one of the staff by the stall showcasing it.
It was a tall redheaded man with a short cut hair and sweatshirt with the company logo all over it.
It looked a bit warm to wear, but he didn’t seem to mind.
“Hello there!” Fredric approached trying to get the attention of the man who was canvasing the room for people that looked interested.
The man smiled as he first heard the greeting directed him, followed by a very brief confused search for the origin, but quickly settled on Fredric that was closing in, now just a couple of meters off.
“Oh, hello there. My name is Marcus, how can I help you?” he responded, certainly a phrase he had said a lot today and would say a lot more.
The man was a bit taller than Fredric, certainly bit more normal in height at around 1.7 meters but did his best to not seem to imposing.
“This is some interesting tech you have here, certainly could solve a lot of issues with keeping the rooms clean of fungi and algae. Must be really exciting to work with a company in the forefront of this.”
The man looked a bit shocked, as if he heard David Attenborough narrate his actions. It took a few seconds, but he recovered
“Excuse me, yes I am very glad to be showing this piece of what we work with, a lot of our partners have said the same too!” Marcus put on yet another beaming smile, in an attempt to perhaps make up for his initial hesitation.
“Oh, who would have the pleasure of already integrating this into into their workflows?” Fredric prodded, hoping to maybe get a hint to work on to investigate later.
“Well, that would be Organic solutions and Vegies incorporated as you can see on the banners here, they are the ones we are showing our demos from. They certainly were satisfied enough with what we had to bring that the Green house umbrella corporation are willing to put down a billion dollar investment!” That last one seemingly slipped Marcus tongue, as he hushed down imminently upon realizing his mistake.
This was exactly, what Fredric had dreamed of hearing but never even hoped actually would happen, maybe a tidbit regarding smaller investments, but this was big.
In an effort to smooth it over and play it cool he continued, there was still more to learn.
“Fascinating, those bring merit on their own. You certainly have something of interest here. What do these parts consist off?..” Fredric trailed into a technical discussion hoping to learn what it was made of so he could look up suppliers of those components too. Marcus was happy to comply, perhaps in vain hope that what he slipped would go unnoticed,
It didn’t take long however until Marcus was called by what seemed to be a superior of his.
A dark skinned woman in her late thirties, in formal attire, a dark green buttoned shirt and a dark grey jacket with the same dark grey skirt going just past her knees. She was at the same height as Marcus, she was curvy and perhaps a bit on the chubby side, though the clothes hid it a bit. She sported a black haired pony tail and a stern look that stared daggers into Marcus.
“Excuse us” she gave trained brief smile at Fredric, and lead Marcus by the shoulder to the back of their stall.
“Oh, certianly Miss Hawkford.” Marcus briefly looked towards Fredric, with a slightly worried expression.
“Of course” Fredric replied, she gave a short pause at the words but continued walking without speaking a word to Marcus.
He suspected nothing of what entailed for the guy he just spoke to and brought up his phone to waste some time to see if they came back, he wasn’t finished.
As on cue he got a notification on the phone, upon unlocking it, the affection multiplier came up.
