A Bar

Haley had hoped that her serving days were behind her after college, but after weeks of looking for better employment, money was tight and she was out of options. She had agreed to an interview at a bar called the queen's organ downtown.

An old style sign with a well dressed woman playing a pipe organ told her she was in the right place. She stepped inside and found herself in the same type of generic pub she had worked at in college.

An older woman stood behind the bar, which was, unsurprisingly empty this early in the day. She looked up at the sound of the door closing. "You must be Haley. You sure you want this job? You're not dressed for a waitressing gig."

Haley took one look at the woman and felt that honesty would be the best policy here "I'm out of options. No one else will hire me. But I've got lots of experience working in bars. "

"So I saw. Make me a whiskey sour, so I know you're not lying."

Haley quickly got behind the bar, experience taking over. She mixed the drink as she had many a time before, and aside from a few questions such as where the ice and garnishes were, did so without assistance. She served the woman, who took a deep sip of the beverage.

"Perfect. You've got the job. I'm Ethel" she extended her hand, which Haley shook. "I'll pay you 10 an hour, you keep your tips on top. I trust you know what to wear for a job like this?"

Haley nodded.

"One more thing. The boys here can be a bit handsy, but they tip very well. My last girl wore a collar and quit because of all the money she brought in. I think the new law is bullshit, but if you need the money, there's the info."

They talked a bit longer, with Haley agreeing to come back to work for that evening's rush, and then parted ways.

Haley went home, and picked out a uniform.
