What do you tell him?
12.3 Deception
"It's been a long time since I've flown." You lie unexpectedly while glancing over at the craft. "I'm nervous."
Boyd watches your expression carefully before nodding in understanding. The grip on your arm loosens slightly and you hesitantly slip out of it.
"I'm sure," He replies in a surprisingly gentle tone. "But you'll do fine."
Biting the inside of your lip, you remain silent as you consider the implications of your decision. Tired of being under someone else's control, it has quickly dawned on you that you no longer need the man's assistance. The plane is all but repaired at this point and you are the only one who knows how to properly operate it. There is little stopping you from sneaking to the craft and taking off solo. It's a risky plan, but if done correctly will result in your regained freedom.
Ignoring any inclination to rethink your decision, you quickly return to your work. Boyd remains silent as you begin securing the engine in place. The day has only grown hotter as the bright sun continues looming above. Finally, you finish tightening the last bolt and take a step back. It's not a pretty job, however, it should be sufficient enough. After Boyd gives an uncomfortable nod of appreciation, you brusquely retreat back to the hangar. It will be difficult gathering what little supplies you have, not to mention any needed supplies.
Waiting until nightfall, you lie silently awake in bed, listening to the decrepit structure settling. Finally, you decide enough time has passed and hesitantly sit up. Slivers of moonlight shine in through the cracks in the walls. It's just enough to allow you to make out where you're going. Though there are a few cosmetic repairs left to be made, you feel urged to leave tonight. With how impatient Boyd seems to be to leave, it wouldn't surprise you if he'd want to take off the minute the repairs are complete. Taking care to remain silent, you quickly throw some supplies in your satchel.
Though securing your belongings proved to be easier than you assumed, you know the real challenge still lies ahead. Steading your shallow breath, you cautiously begin moving towards the small side door. Your heartbeat increases as you reach the exit and gingerly place a hand on the knob. After exhaling softly, you very slowly begin turning the handle. Trying your best to remain steady, you gently push the door open. To your relief it remains silent and you swiftly step outside. Not wanting to try your luck, you leave the door partially open. Looking over at the plane in the distance you know it is now or never.
