“Oh I’d love that Mr. Haggard! I really appreciate you taking the time. Should I go grab my notebook?”

You chuckle. “I didn’t necessarily mean right now, but I know we both have the time. It wouldn’t be the first time someone’s eaten in front of a client. I think the first thing we need to work on is following instructions. I’ve noticed some of the sloppiness that arises from not following some procedures to the letter.”

“I guess I thought I’d found a faster way to do things.” Natalie mumbles her answer.

“And sometimes it worked, that’s what contributed to that impression. But I think you need to be better at following instructions.”

“Of course, I’ll review all those procedures.”

“Let’s start now. From now on, you’ll remove your shoes when you come in and place them to the side of the door. We’ll build the muscle memory of following the right steps.”

“That sounds like a great idea. Thank you.” Natalie hops up and takes off her shoes to place them next to the door.

“I appreciate the initiative to make today the first day.”

“Thank you Mr. Haggard.” Natalie returns to her seat, smiling. She clearly likes following orders; you make note of this.

“Alright, let’s dig in…”

You do give her some genuine notes on her work. You still need to work on her a little more before springing your real plans on her. But after 20 minutes you decide to push her again.

“You’re looking warm, Natalie. Go ahead and take your top off.”
