Attempt to ACHIEVE A GOAL, roll AMBITION, +1 FORWARD, -2 difficulty
0-6: You can't quite get it accomplished. Keep the GOAL.
⚀⚂ +1+1-2: 4, miss! As always, an RPG character's luck is inversely proportional to the importance of the roll.
"Well," Alec says with a condescending smirk and a roll of his eyes in your direction, "Looks like it's up to the goaltender to be the bloody killjoy again. I'll give it to you straight, love; you're not all that special. The other fellows on the team might be polite about it but being blunt's the only way silly girls will learn. You clearly just want to be the center of attention, and are trying to get me and the lads to come along so you can tell your little friends you know us better 'n you do. Well I'm not having it. There's much better stuff going on that week's end with the upperclassmen and I'm not going to be that todger who drags all his mates along to a kiddie party just because he was too nice to say no. Besides, I've seen you walking out of Minerval house before, can't trust that you're not in league with those tossers. See, you'd know this if you actually gave a shite about the team: Minerval is our main rival for the championship, they're the only other house that takes sports serious-like, and they're always looking for a way to sabotage us. Were it some temptress ate your cunt and got you wrapped around her little finger as a Trojan horse, I wouldn't be surprised."
You are quite shocked, and you knit your brow, leaning forward and glaring at him. "Wh- you - This is... completely unfair! How can you make accusations like that against me?" A part of you wants nothing more than to shout 'Defend yourself!' and go for your wand. That would avail you nothing though.
Expressing your frustration by pounding your fist on the table, you lean forward and grab his hand when he gets up, ready to go. "Listen! Are you and your 'lads' a bunch of-" you stop and bite your tongue again. You may be irate, but homophobic insults are uncalled for and definitely won't help.
"Okay," you mutter with a frustrated sigh, "Maybe I and some of my early-year friends do want to be seen with you. But, I mean, surely you see that you and the other star players will get something out of it? Basilisk's breath!" you swear, face reddening, "Everyone there is going to be fucking! I - er, we - want 'to be seen with you' while you're doing dirty things to us! Not spin-the-bottle or teasing games like that - the 'full monty' as people here say! There will be... I don't know, at least half a dozen other girls there at least!" Mother had always said to be careful at the academy because 'men only ever have one thing on their mind'. You were wishing that statement had been more accurate than it seemed to actually be.
Alec just snorted - his family name was quite predictive of his behavior, so it seemed. "Likely story. I've seen your type before, like to talk and promise but turn into shy little flowers when the time comes to put out. And even if it were true, is one night of slap-and-tickle worth having some needy little underclassman tied 'round your leg like a ball and chain for the next few years?" He snickers. "Rather mannish behind that pretty little mask of yours, aren't you? I think you'd have better luck with the Minerval polo team."
Your wand-hand is getting itchy. It was looking like your party was going to be bereft of popular, accomplished senior students after all, unless you could think of a way to change his mind, or 'change his mind'. Alec clearly isn't interested in you sexually or else he would have responded better to your own blunt declaration of intent.
Perhaps you can just give up on these fellows - but Kinzie wouldn't like that, and you were counting on her to bring the advanced spell you'd been so excited about trying. Ugh, and besides, at this rate it would be only Bertie and a few other desperate or undesirable male students there. What if all of them went for someone else and you, the planner of the whole event, were left cold and alone? You might die from such a humiliation.
Darker thoughts began to call to you as Alec pulled out of your grip and began walking away. You didn't really NEED this fellow's help, did you? Perhaps Kinzie was right after all. Enough of this pleading, you can just ambush Fabian (and other players if you're feeling greedy) the night of the party and forcibly COMMAND them to come. Was it morally wrong? Perhaps, but wasn't it equally wrong for these high-and-mighty young men to refuse to even give you and Kinzie and the others a chance? Besides, who would believe them if they said that a bunch of younger female students had coerced them into coming out there and-
A more innocent part of your mind suddenly cried out to you. This is the kind of thing that could get you expelled or worse. Maybe there was a third way that would let you still please Kinzie and bask in the popularity of Fabian and the other players. There were magical creatures that were able to shapeshift and flawlessly imitate a person's appearance, and masters of transmutation could pull similar tricks... Hmm...
