Calixte gave a small pout as she thought about this question, "Nonaffiliated adventurers are treated like tools to get a job done. While graduates are given preference for the safer quests, they are sought out to do more dangerous quests. However, they're usually skilled enough to handle quests so they make on average far more than graduates. Of course, the crown gets the first choice when a new dungeon gets officially discovered, so graduates who successfully clear those and get continually picked as first explorers make far more. In the end, talent, skill, and experience is all that count. Whether you're a graduate or not, if you can catch the eye of an influential noble then you're set."

"So, adventurers explore dungeons in this world?"

The Catfolks eyes narrowed in curiosity at you, "This world... Hmm..." You could tell she was about to ask you something, but her eyes flashed and she answered your question, "Yes, it's believed that the world reset at some point and people from that time... Who saw the end was near, sealed artifacts of importance. Along with riches to help those in the future... Or to preserve their studies on magic, botany, medical knowledge, etc. Adventurers explore the vast unknown in search of these places."

You smiled at that. This sounded great. Being out in nature, on your own, exploring the unknown. Away from civilization. This was a world where we hadn't explored everything on land.

"That sounds great. How do I sign up?"

She raised an eyebrow at you, "Honey, I apologize if I'm being presumptuous... But..." She looked you over, "You have no armor, you have no weapon... So you're not a fighter. You have no magic garb and no staff... So you're not a magician. Pray tell, how do you plan to survive the horrors that await in the wild, much less the dungeons?"

"
