You move down the right corridor cautiously. Suddenly from up ahead a man emerges from around the corner. His tattoos and piercings mark him as a member of the Unix Brotherhood, a group of pirates feared across the quadrant. He seems to be terrified, firing his blaster behind himself wildly as he runs straight towards you, eyes wide, face white and mouth set in an insane unthinking grimace.

He sees you and turns his gun to fire on you as you drop and fire your own pistol. The blast takes him square in the chest, vaporising clear through. He gives a strangled cry as he topples lifeless to the ground.

You lie there, panting, pulse hammering. You listen but all you can hear is your own beating heart, your deep breathing and the hum of the stations systems.

You wait, weapon trained forward. You hear nothing. You reach into your kit and move forward, placing a neuroscanner on the pirate’s head. The scan is taken immediately after his **** so you’re confident you have a complete mind scan. If you can hook the neutoscanner up to a reader you could interrogate the pirate.

But what had so terrified him? You don’t know. You search the pirates body and find two flash grenades, a control collar and leash and a neural suppressor. All illegal items but worth a lot on the black market. You take them. Then…
