Chapter 30 by lady-lux lady-lux

Does Olan do as she asks?

[NPC: Olan]

Human, late forties.

Born into the underground complex, Olan was assigned by the Great Machine to marry a woman named Mala, who became the love of his life. The two of them were exiled during the early waves of banishments - their crime was speaking out against the harshness of some of the other banishments. Mala was pregnant at the time, later giving birth to their daughter, Talia. The three lived happily on the surface for over twenty years.

Around two years ago, Mala died after a short and sudden illness. Suspecting that the medical technology of the Great Machine could have saved her life if they hadn't been banished, Olan grew bitter and vengeful in his grief. After an argument with Talia that led to a serious falling out and estrangement, Olan became embroiled with the other outcasts in their plot to take **** on the Great Machine, with little thought for what their plot would entail, or accomplish. Spending time around Avin and Radan has led him to question the wisdom of his decisions.

Olan's lifetime of work as a blacksmith on the surface has given him a powerful, muscular physique, although he isn't exactly "ripped"; having a job that doesn't involve a lot of moving around has led to him carrying a little extra weight. There is as much grey as brown in his hair and beard, which have been left to become somewhat unkempt in the years since his wife's ****. His rugged features have aged quite gracefully overall, tinted now by his deep grief. On his forehead, like all the outcasts, is a mark placed there to identify and shame him; it has faded over time to a faint smudge.

Now, where were we?
