Isabella set the folder down on the table, her fingers lightly tracing its edge as she collected her thoughts. The amount listed was astronomical, enough to make even the wealthiest Montesoran families think twice. Luckily, her war chest, though stretched thin by the recent chaos, should be able to cover it, though it would leave her with little left.

"Very well. I will authorise the funds to be released, but what about the ministers? I have yet to get a good grasp of where their loyalties lie."

"Ah, that shouldn't be a problem," Sato replied. "I spoke to Alberto and Maria after the meeting yesterday, and while they listen to Romero's words, they are still loyal to the memory of your father. The only real danger is from Romero, General Serrano, and Valdés. But if we can keep them distracted, the others have pledged their support in reaching out to their fellow delegates. With the Big 6 evenly split, the bribes we are about to distribute should be sufficient to swing the votes in our favour."

"That's excellent news, Uncle!" Isabella exclaimed, beaming. She rose to her feet, smoothing the wrinkles in her dress.

"Thank you for your counsel today, Uncle. Now, I have other meetings to prepare for, so I must take my leave. Will you be joining me at the funeral?"

"I wouldn't miss it, Bella," he said, bowing his head. "Good luck, and stay safe."

She embraced him once more, then turned and left the room, back straightened with renewed purpose.
