Chapter 377 by The Other Guy The Other Guy

How is Gabrielle?

, and looking weak

The guard took a position outside the door while you went inside. It's not a bad room, smaller than your one at the academy but larger enough to roomy. Gabrielle was laying in the bed, her hair somehow messy, despite the bath she'd had before the curfuffle and the whole **** since then. You walked over and called her name but she didn't response. You felt her pulse and her forehead. Slow heart rate and she was cold.

Remembering how you felt when you first exhausted yourself you went back to the door and asked if another blanket could be brought for her. Quickly a man wearing the staff uniform arrived and wrapped Gabrielle in another blanket. She made no noise of awareness as it happened. The man left and you took a seat next to her.

You watched her sleep for a moment and checked her aura. It was faded to about Vatarie's level of brightness. A far cry from the radiance it usually had. You thought about what you could say. She'll be staying here at least until she's fully recovered so you should go and get her trunk from Ana's, former, estate. With how often she wrote in her note book you really hoped her things hadn't been damaged.

Going back to the door you asked for some paper and ink to leave her a message. They are swiftly delivered and you wrote down what had happened, that she should stay here until she's all better, and if she wakes up without her trunk you'll be back soon with it. You look at the note you've written with your left hand and go to the door. The guard opens it expecting another request.

"Can you do me a favour and write a letter." You hold up your stump. "I'm missing an important requirement."

The guard blinked at your stump. She looked up and down the corridor and nodded. Walking into the room she took a position and wrote down what you said. She wasn't an expert transcribing and you used words she didn't know a few times so it took a bit longer than expected. You were a bit worried she'd think you were being an ass but she never made a comment and her aura remained neutral. When it was finished you left it for Gabrielle.

"Thank you for that. I owe you." You said with a smile.

"Of course my Lord not an issue." The guard said flatly moving towards the door then hesitated and looked at you. "My Lord I," she hesitated for a moment, "I heard you were, healing the people hurt."

"Ah, oh yeah at the academy gates. Why?" You were surprised that had gotten this far that quickly. There had been a decent number of injured people, and most were the staff for the Princess, who probably worked or had friends in the Palace. You were less surprised now that you'd thought of it.

The guard fidgeted for a moment. "My sister, she lost an eye in the battle against Diya's bandits. Her husbands tried to transfer magic to heal her but it hasn't worked. Could you, help?"

"I ..." you think about how the aura absorbing works and repairs damage. Teaching Oriana's eyes how to fix themselves is not the same as regrowing an eye, however you are going to regrow a limb in a few days, maybe it's the same issue with you as with her. Her nonself-consciousness has already adapted to not having an eye and thus her magic can't automatically heal it. "Can give it a go sure. When and where?" You asked.

The guard looked confused by your agreeing for a moment before she asked if she can have a bit of the paper and ink. She writes down an address and gives it to you saying her sister hadn't left her home so she'd be there. Just tell her than Beth sent you to help. "How much will it cost. I've got a bit saved up and she has her commission from the army."

You looked at the address and see the directions she given you were very detailed. "Cost?" you hadn't even thought of charging for this, a woman lost an eye and you might be able to fix it. "No cost I can help so I will." You said with a shrug. "I'll go and see her ..." you think for a moment, you don't have classes, it's a bit after lunch and the only thing you have to do today is go to Lady Stephanie's class which is in the afternoon. You look at the directions again. "this afternoon probably. I go grab Gabrielle's trunk, drop it here and head to your sisters."

"For free?" Beth seemed skeptical and something just occurred to you. Finally you actually had the option to work and be paid for said work and it didn't involve prostitution or an allowance from your Hanun. It would be good to have some money, finally. But are you really going to be charging for this?

Charge for your services or do it for free?
