(Subplot) The start of the journey

The twelve hour drive started around 6am with only two travel mugs of coffee and a small toiletry bag as the only luggage between the two women. Mel’s longest time in a car was a few short hours for the annual Christmas party at her grandmothers house when she was a little girl. Mel chuckled imagining showing up to the Christmas party not only stark naked but also showing up with her equally naked girlfriend. She sighed knowing that those were distant memories as Mel’s grandmother had passed about ten years ago. Sadly, the big family Christmas parties also ended with members bickering on who should host and complaints about having to be the host. Sadly, it ended with everyone just celebrating amongst their immediate family every year forward and receiving random gift cards or money from the extended family members.

They had been on the road for 30 mins and Lexie was admiring the pensive expression of Mel as she looked out the passenger window. Lexie had been ogling her girlfriend’s exposed tits and pussy since the seatbelt seemed to only outline her naked body instead of covering it up. Lexie finally brought her girlfriend back from her mindscape as she said, “Alright, my naked navigator. You get to control the tunes for this leg of the trip.” She handed over her phone to Mel as Mel found the music app and scrolled through the artists. Mel smiled as she chose Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ song, never expecting that song to be on her punk-rock girlfriend’s phone. Within a few seconds of it playing, Lexie was grabbing for the phone and pleading with Mel, “Oh fuck no, Melanie! Turn this shit off now!”

Mel had the phone far out of Lexie’s reach and said, “Oh shit! You must be serious to be calling me that. I’m sorry, love…I’ll turn it off right now.” Lexie exhaled as the song stopped playing but she immediately felt Mel’s fingers on her shoulder to cause her to suck air right back in. “You do need to tell me why this pop song is on your phone, Alexis.” Lexie saw the serious look on the big brown eyes of her lover. Lexie swallowed some saliva for her dry throat and also returned her eyes to the road as she quickly remembered she was driving on the interstate.

Lexie took a deep breath and said, “Alright…the truth is…super embarrassing for me.”

Mel chimed in, “Ohhhh! Even better…please continue.”

Lexie let out a nervous chuckle and said, “I put it on my phone after hearing you talk about how he’s one of your favorite artists…I was fucking head over heels for you at first glance and this was the only song I could really stand to have on my phone. No offense, babe, but his other songs are kinda crap.”

Mel gave her a kiss on the cheek and said, “None taken, my love. Still the best girlfriend in the world right here.” Mel was quiet for just a moment before saying, “Can we please listen to it once? Pleeease? Pretty please with sprinkles on top?”

Lexie peeked over to see her making the cutest yet sexiest please-face as she purposely squished her tits into a perfect crevice of cleavage. Lexie returned her eyes to the road and said, “Fineeee…You’re lucky you’re so damn sexy, babe.” Mel let out a shriek of excitement as she resumed the song. “J-just don’t expect me to know the words.”

Mel smiled and said, “Oh that’s perfectly fine, my darling. I shall serenade you this time. Maybe I’ll make you like this song more.”

Mel knew these words backwards, forwards and sideways. Mel didn’t think she was the best singer but a few years of choir helped her with not only determining her vocal range of an alto, but also helping her to stay on key. Lexie listened to the angelic rendition of her girlfriend singing the lyrics over the original artist. Lexie could feel her emotions stirring as she would peek to see Mel not once take her eyes off Lexie as she “perfectly” sang the song. Lexie would have thought Mel wrote this song for her and deep in her heart she would say this was their song.

Mel was finishing up the last lyric and she called Lexie perfect one last time as the song came to an end. Lexie quietly sat there as Mel said, “I’m sorry, my love. I’m really not the best singer and I put you through that with an artist you don’t particularly like either. I can…” Lexie began to let her tears fall and sniveled a bit as well. Mel was concerned and said, “Oh my gosh, Lexie! I’m so sorry! I…I didn’t mean to offend you.”

Lexie started to laugh at Mel’s concern and said, “No, you big doofus! I’m not crying because I’m mad. I’m-m crying because it was so fucking beautiful and no one has ever serenaded me before. I felt like you wrote these words just for me, Mel.”

Mel smiled and said, “Well, I would have, but unfortunately someone beat me to the punch and made millions of dollars off it already.”

Lexie chuckled and said, “Well, he can go fuck himself since you sang his own song better plus you are like a billion times sexier than that prick.”

We both chuckled as Mel asked, “What did you want to listen to now, my precious?”

Lexie smiled and said, “Hmmm…I think I need to hear the song one more time to make sure it is my new favorite song.”

Mel hit the back button and smiled while saying, “As you wish.”
