(Subplot) Melanie’s Revelation

Melanie woke up to see she was once again alone in bed as Charlie must have left a little while ago. She yawned and stretched as she checked to see it was about 9:30am so she had slept in. She unlocked her phone to see the app opened up to the assignment and she said, “What the actual fuck?” She thought she had dreamed what Naked Ambition had wanted her to do next as she was groggy and still in bliss from the sex with Charlie. Charlie…he brought out a dangerous sex fiend that Mel hadn’t even known existed as last night Mel was making sounds and feeling pleasure unlike anything before.

She looked back her phone to focus on the words again, blocking out the previous nights’ events. “I need coffee first and then I’ll figure out what the hell this is even asking me to do,” she said to herself as she walked leisurely to the kitchen. For the first time in two days, she was alone and missed the companionship of someone being there. She sat on her stool at the counter and took a few sips as she looked a third time at the assignment hoping it said something different.

Something felt off about this command compared to the other ones, which was simple exhibition or sending nudes to a stranger. This app was wanting to control relationships in her life, people she has known for a while. She took a few more sips as she immediately knew she was going to fail this assignment. John…Melanie knew he deserved the truth and she wasn’t going to break her commitment off just because the app said to. Even if their relationship wasn’t perfect and was bland, she knew he loved her and she loved him. It has gotten a bit messy since he was gone but John had been there for her during college and everyday since then.

“Sorry Naked Ambition! I choose John and you can take my percentage points away,” she talked to her phone as if it was a person. She drank the rest of her coffee and washed the mug as she heard a ding from one of the girls in the group chat labeled “The Naked Club.” It was Laura asking if we were all meeting at Mel’s since it had become the official hangout for the naked club members. Mel responded:

Everyone can come over whenever since I am up. Feel free to stop by whenever your assignments are finished.

She got a bunch of emojis from the different women aside from Anna, who she knew was having a difficult chat with Michael. Mel would have preferred that to be her assignment instead of just breaking it off with John. Mel put her phone down and headed for a shower since it had been a wild night and she felt was feeling quite dirty now.
