“I am glad you are so enthusiastic,” started the embodiment of ****, a smile on her face, “but first I shall tell you the strings that are attached. Then, and only then, shall I accept your words,” finished Lady ****. “Firstly, if you accept to take in my power, you shall be forever corrupted by the touch of **** and thus unable to call upon the powers that bring forth light,” she told him.

John’s face dropped when he heard those words. His Paladin module had proved to be an invaluable asset in his fight against the Order. Its powerful light-based moves plus niche healing and protection spells had saved him and his followers countless times. But here he stood, in front of Lady ****, who just told him he’d have to give that all up. But wait, that power failed me against Lord Brighton! John thought to himself. Yeah! I mean I was severely under leveled as well, but it was clearly the powers that Gaia gave me that were flawed, not me! John desperately tried to justify his loss to Lord Brighton without him having to take full blame. But is that a sacrifice I should make to become living again?

“I can see based on the look on your face that you are quite torn by this,” said the older woman in a kind voice, “But rest assured, I shall make sure you are appropriately rewarded for your actions. It seems Gaia has set up a rather easy to use UI for your powers,” she said as it appeared she was looking at her own screens like John’s powers.

“Wait...what?” asked John, completely flabbergasted.

“Did I not tell you that Gaia and I are two halves of the same whole?” she asked as she continued to punch invisible buttons.

“Well, yes, but that means you can mess with my powers?” asked John, completely confused on how the powers of gods worked.

“Yes. In fact, any god that took an interest in you could modify your powers with this interface. While she and I don’t agree on everything, this is a very good idea she had,” continued the deity as she appeared to fiddle with some toggles. “Now, as I was saying, you will lose access to some of your abilities, but I shall give you a reward that should be of equal or greater value,” she said as she pressed a few more buttons. “Hmm. If I toggle this on, I should be able to allow you to use your Observe ability in my realm. That should probably help you in case you ever have to go to one of them for me,” she said as she apparently pressed another button. “So, go on, give it a try!”

“Uh, yeah ok,” John said as he cast Observe on Lady ****.

“Oh wow, you changed the design!” blurted out John as he went over his new sheet. The new layout was pretty nice and the new background was kinda neat. “But I see you share Gaia’s great sense of humor,” John said dryly as he looked at her stats.

“Well, we are intrinsically tied together, so it makes sense that we may share some common habits every now and then,” pointed out the goddess of ****. “Now that we have that out of the way, I shall continue with my explanation. I shall grant you a direct portion of my power. You will only be able to handle it for a few minutes at best, but you’ll be strong enough to easily wipe out Lord Brighton and any troops that challenge you. It is because you are gaining a full portion of my power that you will be forever touched by darkness that will deny you the touch of light that Gaia likes to use for you,” continued Lady ****. “Once the power dissipates from you and Lord Brighton is dead, you will receive your reward. So, John Newman, I shall ask you once again, will you accept my quest to take a portion of my power and slay Lord Brighton and restore a natural balance of life and **** to the Abyss?!” asked Lady ****, her words echoed through the room.

John stood there and stared at her as time seemed to slow for him as his mind processed all he was told. So if I accept her offer, I’ll gain the power of a god! Well for a short time anyway. But still, the power of a god! That’s gotta be a once in a lifetime kinda thing, even for the Abyss! She also promised to reward me with something of equal or greater value to my Paladin module! I wonder if that’s maybe a **** based module?! Oh man, being a necromancer would be fucking awesome! John’s mind began to race with what possible rewards she would give but would always end up with some play on a ****-based module, which he was completely okay with.

“Yes, yes I will!” announced John as he puffed out his chest a bit.

I have gone through your memories and found an appropriate focal point for you. Now, take this object, John Newman, and be granted the power of **** herself!” yelled Lady **** as an item fell from out of nowhere and landed in front of John.
