"I didn't mean it like that!" you call out after her, and chase her down. "That was uncalled for and unkind."
"Yeah, whatever stupid," she says, and shoots you the briefest and faintest smile you've ever seen in your life. You may not have made a friend, but it feels like you averted an enemy.
