"What, you didn't pack?" Erica's mom asked.

"How could I have packed?" Erica demanded. "I thought I was dropping you and dad off!"

Her mom rolled her eyes. "Never mind that," she said as she grabbed her daughter's hand and continued moving. "You'll be fine."

Erica stumbled as she was pulled along. "Mom!" She continued trying to get her mom's attention but she didn't slow down until they met up with her step-brother at the security checkpoint. "I can't go traveling like this!"

"There were so many immigrant families that entered this country with only the clothes on their back, Erica," her mom started lecturing. "I'm sure you can survive ten days of vacation with your family."

"What?!"
