"Yeah, it was great to meet you."

I took a step around Katie and grabbed the post-it note that had her number on it. I pulled out my phone and sent her a text that just said, John from the party. I put my phone down said, "OK, I just shot you a text so now you have my number, too. I'll definitely call you."

I walked to the front door, opened it and moved aside to see Katie out. She hesitated for a second, like she was considering changing her mind, but then walked through the door with a friendly wave and said, "See you soon, John. Happy Birthday!"

I said, "Thanks! And yeah, I'm looking forward to it," and closed the door behind her. I went to my couch to sit down and reflect on the night. It hadn't quite turned into the crazy night out that I might have expected, but I had met someone really awesome. I was really looking forward to seeing her again. As that thought crossed my mind, my phone buzzed. It was a text from Katie. It said, Hi! :) Don't want too long to call me. Maybe...tomorrow?

I wrote back, Deal. Get home safe, have a good night. I leaned back on the couch, put the TV on, and relaxed for a bit. Katie and I continued to text back and forth during the night. I had high hopes for where this was going, even if it hadn't ended in anything physical on my birthday.
