Two years ago, a new grant program offered by the state and funded by local businesses was initiated that offered graduating students 2 full years of paid community college, if they agreed to partake in a six month internship that would finish their Associate of Business degree. They would get college credit and practical knowledge of how a business truly did business and receive work experience. If they didn't get fired with cause during the six month program, they would also receive either a letter of recommendation to UNLV's business program, or a job offer for a Full Time regular position without a probationary period at the employer they interned for, or both. For those who weren't offered an internship after interviews, they were to report to city cleanup crews on the first day of internships and they would get paid minimum wage (like 98% of the internships) to spend 8+ hours a day picking up trash and scrubbing dried up forms of human waste and bodily fluids off the streets and alleys of Sin City. If you failed to report, you would be arrested.
