Author's Note - Go ahead and add to this. I want to see where people will take this story. I'm not creative enough nor do I have enough time to properly explore this story, so go wild.
This wasn’t normal. Last thing I remembered was sitting on our couch at the flat watching Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Boromir mowing their way through uruk-hai, and now somehow I’m sitting on the same couch in the middle of a whole lot of nothing. Dave had just left to get drinks, and suddenly the world disappeared.
I looked at the other side of the couch. Wait, Sarah’s here too? Surely Dave had to have put something in the drinks. Only logical explanation.
“So what exactly did Dave put in my drink?” I heard Sarah asking rhetorically.
“I was wondering the same thing. I’ve got to be tripping several balls right now otherwise I’d still be in the lounge.” I replied.
NO **** WERE INVOLVED. THIS IS REAL.
Ok that confused me. a) where had that voice come from, and b) I somehow teleported along with my couch and flatmate from the lounge to the vacuum of space with no light source around and I can somehow see Sarah and the couch perfectly well, and I didn’t take anything? I call bullshit.
“This is closer to real than you have ever experienced.” said the guy who was now sitting on his throne in front of us. Wait - there was a guy there now. Ok, that’s a thing.
“Can you offer a better explanation?” Sarah asked for the both of us.
“I can. You’re here for me to offer the two of you a gift. These two coins.” I felt something in my hand, and looked down and WHAT IS THAT COIN? One side was gold, with a perfect image of my face on it, and my name imprinted around the bottom, while the other side was a rusted copper green with Sarah’s face and name in the same style as the gold side. I looked over at Sarah and saw her holding up her own coin - the same, except with the colours flipped.
“These are your wishing coins. When one of you flips your coin, whoever wins the flip will get a wish. The wishes can be anything, so long as the wishes wouldn’t get rid of the coins or remove the other person’s ability to wish.”
“The coins will also stay with you, no matter how hard you try to get rid of them. They cannot be destroyed, and should you try to throw them away or have them taken from you, they will just appear where you will find them soonest. Only one wish may be held at a time, so until the wish has been made flipping the coins will be pointless.”
“Ok I get the mechanics now, but now my question is why? Why give people wishing coins? Why us?” I asked the mysterious guy sitting in front of us.
“I have my reasons, now I think it’s time for you to leave.”
“Wait that’s not an answ -” BANG. Something like a flashbang going off in my face cut me off and suddenly I was back in the lounge watching Merry and Pippin being carried off toward Isengard.
“Good, you guys are back.” Dave said standing over the two of us. “You spaced out for a minute. I go to get drinks, and come back to the two of you staring at the wall and not responding to anything. Was honestly about to call an ambulance but you look a lot better now.”
I felt the coin in my hand, and looked over at Sarah. You know that look, where you both know that the other person is thinking the same thing, without either of you saying anything? That was the look I was getting from her right then. “Well, John.” She said. “Why don’t you go first?”
I looked at my coin. Sure, why not I think to myself. I flipped it, caught it and looked down to see...
