Warp in Space

Experimental spaceship warps not just space, but reality

In the vast emptiness of space, a space ship suddenly appears. The experimental starship Warper creaks and sputters a little before slowly winding down. At the bridge, Captain Adelia Lanceron lifts herself up from the brace position and looks around at the rest of her crew. Some seemed to have failed to brace as they were thrown off their chairs, but everyone looked to be here with no injuries.

"Status report." the 29-year-old declared to the crew. "We have- _ugh -_successfully escaped the rebels and arrived into Allied Space," Lina, the pilot, reported as she got up onto her seat. "All levels are stable, no crew casualties. I think that warp was a success, captain." Adelia nodded as she looked at Lina. The 19-year-old was the newest edition to her crew, having joined this experimental vessel after being recommended by the vice-admiral due to her _stellar _performance in the academy. As many years her senior, Adelia sometimes felt protective sense over her newest member and was also a little doubtful of if she would be able to compose herself as she would be thrust straight into combat, but a sense of pride befell her as she remembered how competent her piloting was.

'She also has the fattest ass I've ever_...' _Adelia shook her head. Where did that thought come from? Why was she-

"Captain," Comms officer Nari interrupted her thought, "I have sent out a distress signal to our nearest allied vessel. We received a signal that they have received the message. " "Thank you, Officer Nari," Adelia replied to the (deliciously) gold-skinned woman. "How long did they say it'll take for them to reach us?"

"3 days in standard time, captain." Adelia let the adrenaline wash over her as she sat upright and stretched. Having survived a sudden encounter with the rebels on her first time on this experimental ship, and having being the first person to experience a warp, she was glad to finally have a certainty of survival for her crew.

'Wait what was that little-' While having these thoughts, she looked down and noticed a call request from Chief Engineer Max.

"Chief Engineer, how is it going on your end?" Adelia looked through the video feed at the mousy woman with glasses standing in her grey engineering uniform, her extra mechanical arm working over her shoulder. She was holding up her arms and looked to be in the middle of fixing something. "Damage control has blocked off most of the damage to the hull, but the regular engines are bust, ma'am. Our one remaining Warp engine seems stable, but the two are supposed to stabilize each other. We don't know what may happen."

Adelia thought for moment. Without the engines, Warper wouldn't be able to move, but the vessel signalled to get us coming in 3 days should be enough. The ship had enough supplies to last the wait, so her only worry would be if the Warp engine suddenly blew up or something. "Uh oh," Max suddenly stopped whatever she was doing on the other side. "Ma'am. I think you might want to come look at this."

"The door just... disappeared?"

Adelia was in shock. After coming all the way to the engine room, she stood next to Max as she looked at the flat steel wall. She turned to look at Max. "How did this happen?" Max was typing away on the access terminal in the room, her third mechanical arm aiding her in the task. Suddenly, she came to a stop. "Well, the blueprints for the ship doesn't show a door having existed here in the first place." Adelia became even more confused. "What the hell does that mean? Where's the Warp engine?" Max jolted a little at hearing her shout as she turned with her index fingers touching. "Well... the system scans show that the Warp engine is still a part of the ship, and from what I can see..." Max looked down at her feet as she thought. "these are the ship blueprints... so it really might be..."

Anger started to flood into Adelia as Max started to mumble to herself. Multiple lines of thought sparking through her mind. Was this not the Warper? Was the ship compromised? Maybe the rebel encounter wasn't sudden. Maybe this was all a plan to get rid of her? The absurd situation made her mind fall into absurd possibilities. "So? What does this mean!"

"It means," Max took a half-step back as she answered. "The Warp engine erased the door from reality."

Adelia's anger cooled immediately as it was replaced with confusion once more. "What? The engine erased the door?" Max fidgeted a little as she tried to think of a way to explain. Adelia glared down at the shorter woman 4 years her younger 'Such a small, little, fuckable-' "There was a theory about warp stones," Max explained, regaining a bit of confidence as she delved into her specialty. "that they don't just warp space, but reality itself, That it warps something out of existence at one point and recreates an exact replica at the target destination. Of course, there was no method of verifying if it really was reality warping or just teleportation, but-" Max said as her mechanical third arm reached behind her and grabbed a small handheld device. "There is a way to measure if a warp stone was activated." She then walked up past Adelia and held the device up to the wall, when it started to beep quite quickly. "So with this, we might be able to detect when changes happen." Max turned with a wry smile on her face.

Adelia covered her face with her hands. "So, reality could change all around us at random intervals? I don't need more doors to disappear on this ship."

"It might not be random, there was another theory that the warp stone might even be sentient with a regular activation cycle when offline." Max smiled before erasing it immediately as she saw Adelia's stressed face. "Uhm, it's still connected to the system so I might be able to send a code to nudge it in the right direction if it does warp reality."

Adelia sighed again, letting the air leak over her lips. "We'll be out here by ourselves for 3 days. I won't make an announcement about this to reduce unnecessary panic, but you'll need to contact me whenever such a change happens."

Max saluted her. "I'll be sure of that, ma'am."

Adelia returned to her captain's quarters before just jumping onto her bed. She turned to the side to look at herself in the wall mirror. 'A body fit for a soldier' was what she thought of herself. Short blonde hair, muscular features with no unnecessary curves. She looked up at the ceiling as sleep started to take her.

'I'm sure it'll be fine.'
