Chapter 1
by raiien
You are a professional esports player. Every day you grind Overwatch 2 with your team. Everyone lives in the same house, so there's a lot of friction. Your teammates are constantly making fun of you because you play the healer role on the team. They call you a "healer main," which is esports slang for someone who is a pro at playing healers. You try to explain that Mercy is a high skill and difficult character to play, but no one seems to believe you.
Craig especially digs into you about how healing is the easiest role. He plays Junkrat, which has a really low skill cap. He also hates having showers, which causes him to have a musky stench around him which revolts you.
Today you have a match against your rivals, The Revengers, a popular esports org with lots of money behind it. Their players have a reputation for being jerks. They specifically single you out and target you, killing you every time your in sight. You and your team get completely annihilated.
Craig, who usually is silent and only communicates in grunts, says "You really screwed us over today! If it wasn't for you and your stupid Mercy, we might have had a chance. Get out of my sight."
You can't take it anymore. Craig's been harassing you since you joined this team and it has taken a toll on your self-esteem.
"Craig, shut the fuck up, man!" you shout. "Just shut the fuck up and get the hell out of my face!"
The whole room goes silent. You realize that everyone is looking at you.
"Look at the little mercy main get angry!" Craig says, laughing.
"No, I'm serious. Leave me alone!" you say, raising your voice. "Get the hell away from me!"
"Come on, little mercy main. Just admit you suck," Craig says, getting up in your face.
His body odour stench assaults your nose.
"You can't say shit - you play junkrat, one of the easiest characters to play!" you retort.
"Oh, so now I suck because my character is easy to play? That's rich, coming from a Mercy main," he says, sneering.
"I'll prove it you!" You blurt out. "Let's have a one-on-one fight, your junkrat vs my junkrat."
Everyone stares at you. No one has ever stood up to Craig before.
"Fine, let's do it. But let's make this interesting," he says, smirking.
"What do you mean?" you ask.
"If I win, you have to do my laundry for a year. And if you win, I'll never say anything bad about your Mercy play again." he says, smiling.
You don't think Craig would ever keep his end of the bargain, but you want to wipe that smug smile off his face.
"Deal," you say.
