Truth or Dare for Bibliofiles

Brittany, Chloe, and Susan moved into the Downtown Chicago apartment about a year ago. At first they’d had a fourth roommate, Raven, but she’d gone to pursue a modeling career in Los Angeles. To pick up the extra rent, the girls had sought a new roommate. The problem was, they’d found two. Susan, long one of Andy’s best friends, had invited him to come live with them. The next day, unknown to Susan, Chloe had promised the space to her sister, Katharine.

Andy had been offered (and had accepted) the spot first, so he had timing on his side. Katharine, though, was family. Both had a good claim on the territory. And what’s more, they both had absolutely nowhere else to go.

Katharine, following in her arguably even more brilliant sister’s footsteps, was now a sophomore at the University of Chicago, while Chloe was a junior. Their parents had sold their house in the suburbs over the summer, and now were living full-time in Arizona.

Andy, on the other hand, had just moved back to Chicago after finishing his degrees in English and physics at Penn. He had deferred his acceptance to the Northwestern University Law School for a year, and he planned to work and play.

Andy had immediately offered to give up the spot—albeit somewhat grudgingly, but he fancied himself a gentleman—but Katharine and Chloe, incredibly sweet girls that they were, had felt awful and insisted that Andy come and stay with them.
