Those Who Stay Behind

Those Who Stay Behind

A WoW story

Chapter 1 by sampleName sampleName

The soft slurping echoed around the rock of the now deserted Dreadscar Rift. Karina smiled to herself. The man that had saved her life sat on the pillowy cushions in front of her, her Master. The Master had given her enough mana in the past two months to sustain a half dozen other succubi. Luckily she was the only succubus here. Before the events of the past two months, she would have had no second thoughts about sucking or fucking anyone on this barren rock. Now her Master’s actions had stolen her heart, commanded her respect, and earned her devotion.

That first month had been a rollercoaster of emotions for Karina. She wept over the fall of the Legion’s homeworld, and the source of her pseudo immortality, Argus. The realization that she could no longer simply reform in the Twisting Nether sent a chill down her spine. She dropped to the floor, a stinging pain shooting throughout her entire body. She felt as though some titanic psychic link had been violently severed, and her mind no longer felt whole. That day Sargeras had been locked in the seat of the pantheon with the vile demon hunter Illidan Stormrage and the rest of the traitorous pantheon. Most importantly of all, she cried tears of joy when her master had pledged to serve as her anchor. The Master vowed to find a way to bind her permanently.

His peers on The Council of the Black Harvest honored the Master’s request and granted him access to all the information the Council had acquired on permanent demon binding. Based on how little air Karina got during their multiple daily sessions the past few weeks, it seemed no warlock in the history of Azeroth had managed the, “moronically simple feat of maintaining two demon souls at once.” Master’s words; not Karina’s. The Master had been on the front lines on Argus. Leading the incursion of the light against the forces of the legion. The Master had torn through Antorus with 19 other powerful champions of Azeroth. It was the Master who returned Aggramar to the corruption of the pantheon. And along with the freed titan pantheon, it was the Master who put the world soul of Argus to rest and imprisoned Sargeras.

Then something changed. Karina began to recognize fewer and fewer faces emerging from the portal that linked the Dreadscar Rift to the Azerothian city of Dalaran. Her regulars stopped coming back. At first, she thought that they had tired of her and moved on to another of her kin, but now she could no longer find them anywhere on the rift. Now, the only action she gets outside of the Master is the occasional fresh-faced adventurer who then vanishes as quickly as the others and the ever-present other members of the Council. She asked the Master if she had done something to drive the others off. He glanced somberly up from the decrepit tome he was pouring over and smiled. It was the first time she had seen him smile in over a month and for some reason when he turned his gaze to her, she knew it was not the smile of a happy man.

“Fret not Karina it is nothing you have done. It is simply the way of things. The current becomes the old as that which is new replaces it and is oft forgotten. I choose to stay here because I do not care for the petty war that Sylvanas wages. In fact, I do not care for Sylvanas. I know the look of one who dabbles in power far beyond their purview,” he chuckles, “That was once me.”

The Master turns back to the grimoire in his hands, “I have more important a focus now than petty contests of speed and power in which my peers participate. I have you as my charge. And what kind of Master would I be if I failed you?”

Karina’s heart swelled. How had she become entangled with a man so well endowed in matters of feeling and fucking. The adoration quickly turned to fear that the man she was kneeling in front of was not real. She lay her down next to his lower head and began to softly whimper. “What did I do to deserve this, to deserve you.”

Authors Note: This came about as a whim I had when I got back into WoW. I don’t know how far this will go. Also, my first story no judge and looking for people willing to edit, my copy-editing skills are hoooot garbage. Enjoy
