The Talisman from the Dark Ages

You are Gaspard, a young student in medieval history at the university of an average French town. Recently, one of your teachers, Madame Grangier, has given some work to yourself and one of your fellow students, Véronique: translate and comment two manuscripts in Old French, kept at the University Library. Manuscripts about sorcery.

While Véronique is working on her part, you are in the reading room of the library, painfully trying to decipher your manuscript. You happen to meet a chapter describing a spell by which a man allegedly can control the mind of a woman, and impose her his will. For this are needed a magic formula and a certain artifact, of which a detailed description is given. You quite easily decipher the text of the formula, but bump against the artefact's description, unable to translate some Old French words.
