At first, I planned for this to be a standalone story, like the others I’ve written before. But those stories don’t leave much space for alternate storylines.

The Camera
No one knows where it came from.
Some say the camera was discovered in the ruins of a long-forgotten Mayan temple. Others claim it was found deep inside a cavern that had never seen the light of modern civilisation. Its design was unlike anything known to human hands—smooth, metallic, humming faintly with energy even after centuries underground. It was Alien tech.
The United States seized it during a covert expedition, quietly integrating it into military research. Over the decades, it passed through labs and war zones. Then—just like that—it vanished.
Some say a rogue scientist used it for personal reasons. Others suspect sabotage. But the truth is, no one knows where it went. Who took it? Why? Where is it now?
The camera, though it resembles a modern device, is far from ordinary.
How It Works
At its core, it’s a mind-control tool. But not in the clichéd sense. It doesn’t brainwash or command—it suggests. It whispers ideas into the minds of those it targets. The more the camera is used on a subject, the more their mind bends, subtly and gradually like changing the common sense.
It’s bonded to its user, charging through their neural fluctuations, feeding off emotions, thoughts, and hormones. Earth’s best scientists couldn’t decode how. They just knew it responded to its wielder, perhaps even to desire.
To outsiders, it looks like a camera. It even works like one. It captures moments, records visuals, and clicks like any DSLR. But within its lens lies something ancient. Something... alive.
What else can it do? No one knows. Its full potential has never been unleashed.
