The Great Shift

My name is Nick Connors, and I'm a 6' 1'' senior trying to get by the final school year without making a scene. A typical day would be me minding my own business, getting through classes, and playing video games, not exactly the recipe for popularity. My twin sister Claire on the hand, was the spotlight of the entire school and the total opposite of me. Not only is she a confident senior, she also has the appearance that makes her the envy of the other girls and the wet dream of the guys.

The day started of like usual, getting off the bus and heading to my locker to get my things for 1st period. I told my sister "talk to you after school," as she went off to meet her friends while I tried to figure out what to bring with me to class. But something felt off, and not in the being sick kind of way. I tried to brush it off as just me needlessly worrying too much.

My first class was science, and it was the most boring class to put it mildly. We had to listen to Mr. Smith rambling about his life stories while explaining some scientific theory. In was bad enough that all of this is happening in 1st period, but it felt like time was tormenting me by being unbearably slow.

Just as I look up at the clock, I started to feel dizzy. I asked to be excused from class to get a drink, and just as I left the lab the world suddenly turned dark.
