The Diary of Hannah Smith

Things That Shouldn't Be Read Outloud

Chapter 1 by KingOfBohemian KingOfBohemian

During the colder months of the year, walking home seemed like such a chore. The wind was always brisk and it didn't help that the ground was covered with either ice or snow ninety percent of the time that winter was around.

Nearby where you lived, there was a high school that had several students who lived close by. Some of them even lived in your own neighborhood. There were two ways to get to the school from where you lived, one way was to take the street and walk on the sideway that looped around the entire neighborhood, the other was to cut through the small stretch of woods that was hidden behind a row of houses that led directly to the school.

Nearly all through winter the highschoolers that lived around you decided to take the covered path to school over the road.

One day, mid afternoon past the time that school was released, you were on a stroll down the path covered by the trees. The snow wasn't as thick on the ground here as it was everywhere else. Footprints of both people and animals had compacted it and made clear indentations of where was the preferred route to travel.

While looking ahead through the trees, you didn't notice something was laying in your path. That was, until you kicked it and sent the thing flying a few feet in front of yourself. Curiously, you looked down at the object to discover it was a book. It looked and well kept and a little wet from sitting out in the snow. The pages were bound in a pale pink faux leather and were kept shut by nothing more than a small leather string that wrapped around the entire width of the book.

It was clear that someone had dropped it.

Taking a glance up, you notice that no one is around you, no sounds of footsteps can be heard. You looked back down at the book and dip down to swipe it up into your hands. A little snow was left on the bottom side of it which was easily brushed away by the side of your jacket. Once the snow was dusted off, you turned over the book to see, what you thought was the bottom was actually the top.

Written in bold, gold, lettering was the word DIARY. There was only one last thing to consider after reading that word...
