The Device

A little science goes a long way

Chapter 1 by DarkTelsk DarkTelsk

As i finished up the last connection on my invention I could barely hide my excitement. I had been working on this project for nearly a year and now it was finished. A device that would tap into a person's brain waves and implant subliminal messages into their brains as if they were their own thoughts. And to top t off I was able to disguise it to look like an odd cellphone with a keyboard. I was a genius and couldn't wait to test it out.

Before I do however I should tell you a bit about me. My name is Doug and i truly am a genius. The problem is nobody seems to see my true intelligence. All they see is a geeky guy who everyone can either get what they want from or torment to make themselves feel good. My family does it, my so called friends do it, even the teacher's at my college do it. And to be quite honest I am sick of it. That's why I made my device in the first place, to get on them all. I just needed a test subject and I knew the perfect one.

Dawn Jones was a teacher and advisor at my college who knew I was smart but thought she was smarter. Any time we would interact she would talk down to me and tried to belittle anything I did. This was a major aggravation because it was a policy of my school that we had to visit our advisor once a week. It was a pain I had to endure for over a year but today everything was going to change.

I waited outside her office for my meeting with Ms. Jones for what seemed like a hour but was actually more like five minutes, fumbling with my device as I waited. When she finally opened her door to greet me she did as she always did, stood over me with this look like she was trying to think of a new way to make herself seem better. She saw the device in my hand and saw her chance.

"Doug put your phone away." She said with a stern voice. "These meetings are crucial to your future and are more important than some silly phone app game."

That's when I decided to test out my device. I began typing.

It doesn't matter what Doug is doing on his phone.

The device pulsed and Ms. Jones shook her head for a moment letting her red hair fall into her face. Her eyes when glassy for a moment then she brushed her hair away.

"Fine you know what?" She said with a bit of aggravation. "It doesn't matter what you are doing on your phone. Just come into my office."

I had to hide my excitement of the device working. It was nothing major but I knew it by the way she reacted and how she had worded her reaction. The only question on m mind at that moment was do I continue testing on her or find anew target.

Continue testing or find a new target?
