The Dark Corners of Outer Space

Lost in the Unknown

Chapter 1 by ABSOLUTE ABSOLUTE

You awaken to the alarm going off in your room. The compact space had no light protruding the darkness except for the red, flashing that the alarm indicator was going off.

Beneath you, the feeling of cold metal disturbed your skin and you immediately why you were on the floor instead of in your bed.

Rising groggily, you move to find the door handle and your hand clasps it clumsily. Your vision is blurred for sometime and it felt like something had drilled its way into your skull. The pain was so sharp, so horrid that you thought you were going to be sick at first.

"Where... am I?" You heard your voice, hearing the straining in it as you tried to speak. What exactly had happened?

Instead of opening the door, you pressed the button to the intercom in hopes of reaching the Captain.

"Captain? Agent Markis reporting. What's our status?"

You waited for some time, hoping that an answer would ease your mind. However, nothing came.

Perhaps he hadn't heard you.

"Captain. This is Agent Markis. Is everything alright on your end?"

Again, nothing occurred. The alarm continued to flood your senses as you awaited some sort of sign. But nothing came.

That is until you went to speak into it one last time.

A howling screech interrupted your speech, piercing deep into your mind as if it were right next to you. Your brain didn't recognize it, however. It wasn't something from any malfunction you had ever known. And that... worried you.

Grabbing the phaser pistol on your desk, you immediately readied yourself for anything as you pressed the needed keys to exit your room.

With one swift movement, the door swung open... but only half way. Luckily, it was enough room to get you outside.

Squeezing through after peeking around the hallway, you tried to assess the situation. The alarm remained online and only that red, flashing light illuminated the lower quarters.

You got a chill as you saw other doors ajar and no one lying within. Circuits were torn from the ceiling, dangling dangerously close to spark near you.

Something had seriously gone wrong while you were out.

Moving quietly along the wall, your senses opened to any changes to your environment, you soon found the bathroom. Here is where some basic medical supplies were supplied. If you ran into any of your teammates while venturing forth, you may be able to help if they were injured.

Pushing forth, you opened the door and checked to make sure it was safe before entering. Some mirrors were cracked while a small vent had been broken loose. Was there something wrong with the core of the ship?

Brushing it aside, you go to the mirrors and open the small doors. When they slide to the side, shelves unfold from the wall behind them. Rows of minor medication, syringes, and bandaging presented themselves to you... untouched.

Thinking nothing of it, you grabbed enough to aid a small squad into a bag also provided above it.

Closing the cabinet, you saw into the cracked mirror again. There, your reflection looked back at you with reddened eyes and a busted lip. Obviously, the ship had done quite a bit in order to let you get this beat up in your sleep.

But you still looked ready for your job.

So, Agent Markis, are you a female or male cadet?
