The Book of Kelthas

A Magical Tale

Chapter 1 by DarkTelsk DarkTelsk

It was a bright day outside. the kind of day a guy like me would be more than happy soaking up the sun and quite literally be anywhere but in my basement cleaning. Unfortunately that's where I found myself that day. My name is Jack and this is how a little chore chained my life.

My family was out of town for the next two weeks leaving me full run of the place as long as i cleaned up the boxes in the basement. Luckily for me I was able to convince my best friend Lisa for help.

"You are going to owe me big time for this." She said dropping a box onto a small table near the stairs. "Why did I agree to help you anyways?"

"If memory serves" I laughed and flipped open the box and rummaging through it. "It was an offer of free pizza and that you wanted to borrow my car to pick up your tree for your garden. Because heaven forbid your car could fit anything in it with all the junk you keep in there."

Lisa punched my arm jokingly and went to get another box. I dumped the content of the box I had into a garbage bag and stacked the box with other empty ones. Nobody in my family had been down in the basement in a long time and it was obvious from the state of things down here. If dust and spiderwebs were currency my family would be rich.

"Hey Jack!" Lisa shouted from around the corner. "Check this out."

I left the table and made my way over to where Lisa was. She was standing in front of a small hole in the wall looking inside it. She waved me over and pointed to it.

"There is something in here." She said trying to get a better view. "something metal. I knocked something off the shelf here and it fell in the hole and clinked against something. I didn't want to try and find out what it is but it's your house. So if you make the hole bigger... it's not my fault."

We both laughed and then she got out of my way. Looking into the hole in the wall I could defiantly see something in here. I couldn't tell what it was but it looked like if I could reach it I could pull it out through the hole. Without hesitation I reached my hand inside and began reaching around inside. With a little blind exploration I found whatever it was and began pulling it out. To my surprise it looked like a small treasure chest. I brought it over to the table. Lisa followed and looked over my shoulder as I opened the box. Inside was a book as well as piece of paper. Lisa grabbed the book and began flipping through it while I picked up the paper. It was a note of some sorts but it was nothing but odd symbols. Even more odd was the more I looked at it the more I understood them.

To the one who finds this book,

My name is Kelthas. I am what you would call a wizard. I myself prefer to call myself a manipulator of the mystic arts. I have decided it is time t pass on some of my knowledge. I sent this book to you because your natural magic can attune to it. I know because you are able to read this. I used a simple spell to hide the writing in the book and this note. If you can read this then you can cast any spell in the book. Perhaps when the time is right we will meet and I will teach you personally. Until then just make sure you don't go overboard. Mystic energy is not something to be taken lightly.

Enjoy,

Kelthas Malar

"This book is weird." Lisa said snapping me back to attention. "It's just a bunch of scribbles and nonsence. And here I thought it might be worth something."

She dropped the book on the table and it popped open. I looked down at the page and saw I could clearly read the words on the page. However the words, well the main words in the book, seemed to be in an odd language. There were however English notes all over the margins. I said the first word I saw in the book and felt a rush of cold air blow around me. I closed my eyes in reaction and when I opened my eyes I could not believe what I was seeing.
