The Bet

Chris wasn't always The Stranger. He used to be decent, kind even.

He once worked at a bakery and had a smile that could warm a winter day. Then on one ordinary Tuesday, he stumbled upon a lamp that held a mischievous genie. The genie told him that he will only get one wish. Blinded by the promise of power, Chris wished for infinite wishes. The genie, with a cruel grin, granted it. But there was a twist. Chris could wish for anything to happen to anyone and anything, except himself. And as a final parting gift, the genie cursed him with forgettable features, ensuring no one would remember him after they looked away and setting him on a path to corrupting people.

At first, Chris tried to be a hero, anonymously granting wishes for the less fortunate. But the limitations gnawed at him. He saw the joy on others' faces, the fulfillment of their deepest desires, while his own life remained stagnant. Bitterness twisted within him. He began using his power for personal gain as he watched the chaos unfold.

But growing bored with using his powers without resistance, Chris, now The Stranger, targets people and gives them seemingly easy bets for them, all with the intention of stacking the cards against them.
