Sugar Rush

The streets of Tricotore were dark and cold as the wind swept the dust along the rock pavement devoid of any human presence. Nobody looked at the streets through their windows. Nobody paid any attention to the empty streets. Nobody except a lonely woman. She stood high up and away from the streets and they held a sense of intrigue in her mind. Neko was the classic princess locked in the tower, the only exception being that she wasn't a princess but a Duchess. The Duchess of this poor city, filled with thieves and smugglers. Having lived most of her life in the castle overlooking the city of Tricotore, Neko did not have much knowledge of the daily lives of the average citizen apart from the court audiences granted to them, and the time during her Giving. The city slept and Neko watched silently for a some more time before tiring of the view, as she did on every night before she slept. She crawled into her bed, surrounded by fine decorations, everything around her worth a fortune, but wealth did not matter to the Duchess. Money, power, and material fulfillment had been a constant part of her life and she had never wanted for anything, but for the past few months, something inside her yearned. The problem was not that she would not get what she wanted, but the fact that she did not know what it was that it was that she felt was missing from her life.

Neko lay in her bed, luxurious feather pillows supporting her head. She was a valuable asset to the city and she knew the power she held over all those who served her. Feeling indecisive, Neko thought about what to do. The only things she could were to try to fall asleep or to stay awake until sleep came to her. The indecisiveness felt like a foreign thought in her mind and it had seemed like a constantly nagging feeling for some time now. Finally, she made up her mind about her decision.
