Chapter 1 by whizzper whizzper

It is August 15, 2057. Dunkelzahn the Great Dragon, the first Non-Human to hold the office of President of the UCAS (United Canadian and American States) had just been in office for a whole nine hours before some unknown assailants assassinated him. The reading of Dunkelzahn's will six days later was the start of this story. The last line in the will to be exact.

"To the last Knight of the Crying Spire, I leave the suit of armor worn by Richard the Lion-hearted on his Crusade, because it's up to YOU to lead the next one. I also leave you the sword Excalibur--unfortunately I can't seem to find it at the moment. To whomever finds Excalibur deliver it to the Draco Foundation for a reward and title. The Draco Foundation will promptly turn the sword over to you, my knight."

The lady sat up in her chair with a gasp. "Knight of the Crying Spire? He...he's still alive?" Hope filled her, perhaps her centuries of loneliness would come to a close. Perhaps the Knight could help her again!

She struggled out of the chair and she was sitting in and moved to the security room. Her head of security, a human named Deavers met her at the door, his augmented ears actually catching the sound of her agitated footfalls, "Yes, M'lady? Are you alright?"

"You still have your contacts in the...the street?"

Deavers smiled at the lady, "In the Shadows, M'lady. Yes, I do, they aren't things you give up, you never know when you're going to need them again. What's the matter?"

"I...I need a team, more investigative really to find the "Last Knight of the Crying Spire". That and an ancient Crosier. They..."

"You're loves again my lady?" Deavers asked softly. He and the chambermaid, Cherise, were the only ones the knew the Lady's story. She looked no older than thirty, maybe thirty five, but in actuality...

"You think I'm crazy, and sometime I think I am as well. But...I just know...the Crosier got us together in the first place, and I have this feeling it will again, I just don't know how to find it. After Qir..." The lady lowered her head, "I'm...I'm glad for the company that you and Cherise give me..."

"And Cherise for a long time."

"Well, yes, I'm glad I found her family line again after that shipwreck. I was amazed someone survived on that island for two years. I heard of it, and sent for her, and her family has served me for generations. And then you... Please...find the Last Knight of the Crying Spire."

Deavers smiled kindly, "Of course my lady. I promise upon my honor."

The lady smiled, "I know. It runs in your family. Did I tell you that two of your ancestors also worked for me? Their grandfather served my mother..."

Deavers smiled, "Yes, My lady Gwendolyn." He noticed the Chambermaid walking down with some food, "It's your supper time my Lady, I'll get started on the calls. By the way, when are you going to collect what he gave you?"

"What?"

"You used the name Beatrice Wilder for a bit didn't you?"

"A long time ago. In fact it was right after the conquering and I had lost my Aldric. My Thief didn't last much longer, I was distraught. But I don't ever remember meeting Dunkelzahn. I mean I have a drop of his blood in me, courtesy of my Last Knight, but...wait. Did he give me a chateau near Zurich?"

Deavers replayed the necessary portion of the reading, "Yes."

"It was...I wonder how he knew, this was deep into his sleep period. My Knight again perhaps?"

"I'll arrange for you to claim your inheritance, and while in Washington D.C. we'll go to a specific bar I knew when I worked there. They should have what you need to find the Last Knight of the Crying Spire."

"Thank you Deavers." The lady said.
