Repopulating (High School DxD)

Will you repopulate the Fallen Angels or the Devils?

Chapter 1

Heaven despised the Devils and the Fallen for their treachery and thought the punishment ought to be . Devils feared the Fallen and Heaven because they wielded Holy Light, and believed both factions ought to be eliminated to ensure their safety. The Fallen shared a border in the Underworld with the Devils, while fearing the power of their Holy counterparts.

With three factions so opposed, it was natural they would fight. And they did, fighting the largest conflict in the supernatural world.

Before the war, angels traveled in gleaming legions of gold. When one fell, God would raise five- and then God died and the rebirths stopped. Angels couldn't reproduce naturally without falling from heaven, and so couldn't replenish their numbers. Their legions of thousands became armies of hundreds and then squads of dozens.

The Fallen Angels depended on the existence of Angels to replenish their numbers. They would tempt a holy Angel to sin, and once the Angel did, his wings would be dyed black and he would become one of the Fallen. No more Angels meant the Fallen weren't receiving any more recruits in that manner.

Their situation wasn't as dire as that of the Heavens because they could still reproduce naturally, but their bodies- created as they were by God- were never meant to sire children. They had remarkably weak fertility, and it would take centuries to bring a single child into the world.

The Devils had arguably suffered the most during the war. First, they had fought in the Great War, and then they had fought a Civil War among themselves to determine the future of their race.

Before the war, they had four Satans, who led seventy-two noble pillars, who in turn led hordes of lesser devils. After the war, all four of the original Satans were dead. The seventy-two pillars had lost forty members, leaving thirty-two. The rank-and-file suffered even worse.

The Great War had weakened all three factions drastically. Some believed a repeat would see all three factions extinct. Consequently, they resolved themselves to ignore the slights and bloodshed of the years past.

The naysayers eulogized the honored dead and used their sacrifice to rouse all the factions to inaction. Look at all we lost, they said. Why add more bodies to the pyre?

Their argument was based on the war being unwinnable, but I disagreed. The war was only unwinnable for heaven, who could no longer replace their numbers. The Devils and the Fallen, on the other hand? They could rebuild.

Those two factions could sire children and grow their population. The Fallen and the Devils could train their children to become soldiers so that one day, they could destroy their hated enemies.

It is only right that I do my part in the war effort and repopulate my faction.
