Regretful Vacation

John and Rachael had been together since high school. They had been best friends for a the majority of school. John had had feelings for Rachael for ages but by the time John had found the courage to ask her out it was senior year and in the summer before Rachel had transformed into a veritable goddess. This glow up did not go un noticed by the rest of their class mates. Every time John even though about asking her out there was some new hunky jock got there first. She was painfully out of his league. But come the last two weeks of high school, the prick she was dating traided her in for a newer shinier thing and John pounced. Racheal was his. He felt like the luckiest man on earth and had now for 8 years.

Rachael was now 25 and he was 26. John loved their life and he genuinely believed she did too. They have a nice apartment together and good jobs in the city. Maybe the gap between their looks had gotten a little larger, John had let himself go recently but Rachael was radiant as ever but she said she didn’t mind. They had a group of friends each and a few couples friends. The newest of which was Amber and Zach. Amber used to work with Rachael at her old job and they had re connected recently. Lately she had gotten very serious with her new man after dumping her Ex suddenly and decided to invite John and Rachael round to meet him.

The evening went surprisingly well. Amber and Zach made a beautiful couple with a lavish house to match. John had always got the impression that Amber didn’t like him much but maybe he was wrong, they invited both him and Rachael out after all. John and Zach got to know each other while the girls chatted about some old office drama. Zach seemed like a solid guy, he worked in finance (explaining the house) and like John he more than knew his way around cars. He took John for a tour round the garage which was by no means a disappointment. And by the time dinner was served everyone was very tipsy. After dinner the night was a bit of a blur.

Come the morning Rachael was awoken to a text from Amber “four flights to Spain booked, you two are just going to love the island, it was so generous of Zach’s uncle to let us use it”
