Chapter 1 - Reunion

Reed locked the front door behind him and stepped into the mild morning air, the key warm in his palm.

Behind him, the house had already begun settling back into its quiet. Linsey's half-finished tea sat on the kitchen counter. Her mug was still warm. On the pillow upstairs, the faint scent of her shampoo lingered in the room they had shared for years.

She had kissed him goodbye at the door.

Soft. Familiar. Almost absentminded.

The same kiss she had given him when they were sixteen, before either of them understood how much a person could change while staying beside the same one.

It should have been enough.

It never was.

Reed paused at the bottom of the steps, adjusting the collar of his shirt. His body still carried the restless ache of the night before.

He had wanted her.

She had known it.

He had asked once. Then again. The third time, his voice had dropped to a whisper, as though wanting his own wife were something that needed to be kept from the neighbours.

Eventually, Linsey had given in.

She had been gentle with him. Patient. Her hands had rested on his shoulders, never quite holding him, never pulling him closer. He remembered the quiet sounds she had made, but more than that, he remembered the feeling that she was somewhere else entirely.

Reed had finished, then lain awake beside her while her breathing deepened into sleep.

He had stared at the ceiling. She hadn't even known he was still awake.

That was the part he couldn't shake.

Once, he had known exactly how to make her reach for him. Once, she had kissed him as though she couldn't get close enough. Now he could lie beside her naked and still feel as if there were a locked door between them.

Twice a week, if everything aligned.

Once, if he asked too many times.

And afterward, the same hollow space.

Porn didn't fill it. If anything, it left him colder.

What he wanted wasn't simply release. He wanted to feel wanted. He wanted someone who answered his touch instead of enduring it. Someone who pulled him closer without being asked.

Mouth that opened for him. Hips that met his thrusts like they were starving too.

Someone who made him forget, for a little while, that desire could become lonely even inside a marriage.

Reed checked his watch.

He was going to be late.

With one last glance at the house, carrying the dissatisfaction of the night with him.

He started down the quiet street toward the office, briefcase in one hand, the other shoved in his pocket. Three houses down, Coco's place sat behind its low iron gate.

The balcony on the second floor was empty, curtains still drawn. Reed's eyes found the space the way they always did.

Coco was in her late thirties, fair-skinned and sun-kissed, with toned arms and curves that made even the simplest dress look deliberate—as though the clothes had been designed around her rather than the other way around.

Breasts a little heavier than average, the soft weight of them visible even under the loose shirts she wore to walk the dog.

He had imagined those curves under his hands more times than he could count.

Imagined holding her open, pushing into the heat of her while she made the kind of sounds Linsey never quite reached.

Her husband was gone.

For a week, the man had found a reason to mention the trip.

"Three weeks in Singapore," he'd said one morning, leaning against the hood of his car. "Meetings with the regional team. Big accounts. Serious money."

He always made the numbers sound bigger than they were.

That morning, while he talked about boardrooms and first-class flights, his attention kept slipping toward Linsey. His gaze lingered a second too long at her waist before returning to her face.

Reed had noticed.

He knew that look.

It was the same look he caught himself giving Coco.

Slow.

Claiming.

Once, he handed Linsey a package, his fingers brushing hers. He didn't pull away right away.

At the neighbourhood barbecue, he had stepped in close behind her when she reached for a plate, the front of his trousers brushing the curve of her ass like it was an accident.

Heat climbed beneath Reed's collar.

The memory came back with the same sharpness: the man's fingers lingering against Linsey's when he handed her the package. Reed had taken one step forward before Linsey caught his wrist.

"They live here," she had said later, her voice low and matter-of-fact. "And he has friends. Just leave it."

So Reed had left it.

He had swallowed the words burning behind his teeth and let the moment pass.

But some things didn't pass just because you kept your mouth shut.

The balcony was empty today. Reed kept walking, his jaw clenched so tightly it ached, his hands flexing at his sides.

Then the front gate clicked open.

A man stepped out.

He was tall, dressed in a tailored suit that seemed cut for him alone—the kind of height and broad shoulders that made him look as though he belonged on a billboard rather than a suburban driveway. His face was handsome in a clean, expensive way, every detail polished.

Coco stood in the open doorway behind him, one bare shoulder resting against the frame. She wore a soft robe, loose at the throat, her hair mussed from sleep—or something Reed didn't want to name.

Then she looked at the man.

Her expression changed.

The guarded, distracted look Reed knew so well disappeared, replaced by something softer. Brighter. She looked at him as though seeing him was enough to make her morning better.

Reed's chest tightened.

He had never seen her look at her husband that way.

Coco lifted a hand and blew the man a quick kiss.

He caught it with a smile that lingered as though the moment belonged to him.

Then he turned.

His eyes found Reed almost immediately.

Instead of looking away, the man lifted a hand and waved.

Casual. Familiar.

As if they were old friends.

Reed slowed.

The man waited by the gate, one hand resting on the latch, wearing the patient smile of someone who already knew Reed would stop.

"Reed." His voice was easy. "How are you, man?"

Reed stared at him.

The face took a moment to settle into place. The jaw was sharper now. The clothes were better. The years had polished him, but they hadn't changed his eyes.

Those were the same.

Reed remembered them sweeping across the high-school hallway, always searching for the next girl who looked too shy to say no.

"Pete?"

Pete's grin widened.

He crossed the space between them and clapped Reed on the shoulder hard enough to rock him back a step.

"Took you a second." He laughed. "Yeah. It's me."

They fell into step together without deciding to, moving away from Coco's house and down the sidewalk toward the main road. The past came back in pieces.

Pete had been the school's golden bully—charming when he wanted something, cruel when he was bored.

He never touched Reed. Reed had been strong and quiet enough that Pete left him alone. He had never once looked at Linsey the wrong way either. Back then he had treated them both like extended family, the kind of brother who stole your fries and then defended you in a fight.

They talked the way old classmates do when the years have been kind to one of them.

Pete's voice was smoother now, money in every casual phrase.

Reed answered on autopilot, still half-turned toward the house they had left behind. The flying kiss. The soft look on Coco's face.

The way her robe had gaped open just enough to show the upper curve of one breast.

When the conversation hit a natural pause, Reed asked the question that had been sitting on his tongue since the gate opened.

"Why were you at Coco's?"

Pete's mouth curved. He didn't look surprised. "Straight to it like always."

Reed waited.

Pete glanced around before lowering his voice.

"I've got a girlfriend. Sweet girl. Just not much of a fire in her, if you know what I mean." He smirked. "A man still has needs."

Pete let the silence stretch.

Reed's jaw tightened. For a second, he was back in his own bedroom, staring at the ceiling beside a sleeping Linsey.

"Coco's her older sister," Pete said. "Met her three months ago at a family thing." His mouth curled into a knowing smile. "Turns out she's been starving too."

Reed's chest tightened. The street suddenly felt narrower.

Pete pulled his phone from his pocket, unlocked it with a thumb, and tilted the screen toward Reed. "Here. Easier to show you."

The video was already playing.

Two bodies tangled on what looked like Coco's own bed—cream sheets, the same soft light that filtered through her balcony curtains in the afternoon.

Pete was on top of her, one of her legs hooked high over his hip, the other spread wide.

His cock drove into her in long, deep strokes that made the mattress dip. Coco's head was thrown back, mouth open, the sounds coming out of her muffled by the phone speaker but still raw—wet, broken.

Her nails scored red lines down his back.

Every time he bottomed out, she lifted to meet him, hips rolling like she was trying to take him deeper than physics allowed.

Pete's free hand pinned one of her wrists above her head.

The other squeezed her breast hard enough that the flesh spilled between his fingers. Her skin was flushed from throat to navel. Sweat shone at the hollow of her collarbone.

When the camera shifted, Reed saw the place where their bodies joined—her pussy stretched around Pete's thick shaft, shiny and swollen, clinging to him on every withdrawal like it didn't want to let go. Pete fucked her harder. The wet slap of skin on skin filled the quiet street.

Coco's free hand grabbed the sheets, then his ass, pulling him in.

She came with a sharp cry that cracked into a moan, inner walls visibly fluttering around him on the screen. Pete kept thrusting through it, chasing his own release, until he buried himself and held, hips jerking, flooding her while she trembled under him.

The video ended on a still frame: Coco's face turned toward the camera, eyes half-lidded, lips parted, the clear mark of Pete's teeth on the side of her neck.

Reed's pulse hammered in his throat.

His cock had gone rigid inside his trousers, heavy and aching, the same desperate need that Linsey could never quite answer.

He could still smell the phantom scent of sex from the phone speaker. He could still hear the way Coco had begged for more without words.

He looked up from the screen. Pete was watching him, calm, almost amused, the same expression he used to wear when he had already won something no one else knew was being fought over.

Reed's mouth opened. No sound came out.
